31 Days of Meme Halloween

[personal profile] witchgif 2013-10-08 02:10 am (UTC)(link)

It's time for another month of ghouls, goblins and nightmare monsters! Every day in October I will be posting something witchy, horrific, or just plain Halloweeny. Picspams, discussions, and more!

Today's Theme: Childhood Fears

What were your childhood fears, meme? Monsters under the bed? Ghosts in the shower? A giant spider that surely lived under your front porch, just waiting to grab you on dark winter mornings?

Do you still have any of your childhood fears as an adult?

Bees. I really hate bees and I always have.

I had a hornet's nest outside of my window during my freshman year of college. I fixed this by opening the window just a crack, spraying killer spray at the nest, then slamming the window shut and running all the way to the other side of the room. Rinse and repeat because I kept missing in panic.

yep! I still imagine some monster hiding under my bed and that I have to get in quick or I'll get grabbed! I'm safe as long as no limbs are over the side.

I also hate, hate, hate being alone in basements, especially dark ones. I always run up the stairs as fast as I can because I get spooked that something will come after me.

I also feel a compulsive need whenever I use any bathroom to check for witches behind the shower curtain.

My parents tried really hard to never tell me about monsters or that if I didn't do something then so-and-so was coming to get me so I never had a fear of under the bed or closets or even of the dark

My older brother (who did have a fear of the dark as a kid) told me how I'd get up out of bed in the middle of the night and turn off his nightlight and close his door

Plenty of things scared me like the alien from Alien popping out of the guy's chest and I cried when the White House got blown up in Independence Day because I thought it was real and the President was dead but my biggest fears as a kid was needles and heights

Surprisingly my fear of birds really didn't hit until I was a teenager and I'm still pretty scared of needles but now with more self control

I was always afraid when I was leaving a room that a monster would grab my hand when I shut the door

Well, I will say that when I was child the Nick Jr. screen face scared me, to the point where I thought if I didn't close the blinds, he would stare at me from the window, all red and angry and stretched over it completely.

Also, I refused to go to bed if I woke up in the middle of the night and heard voices when I tried to go to sleep. Honestly, they seemed so real when I was a child. Even last year I think I heard one. It's strange really.

Oh, and yeah spiders. I can thank the little jerk that climbed on top my sheets when I woke up one time.

Home invasion. Terrified. Convinced that if it's dark enough and there are enough windows, someone is gonna bust through the window and kill me. Anxious? Naw, not me.

this fucking thing

I grew up in a poor single mother family with five siblings and my mother was very anti-toys, anti-play, anti-party, anti-holiday, anti-everything growing up (because you know, A child's joy is fucking stressful and cigarettes are expensive) so you can imagine what sort of damn miracle from God it was that I got this expensive 30$ doll for my birthday one year.

I was really young, like maybe six and seven and I was so excited to have this doll and played with it constantly and I guess that pissed off my older teenage siblings off because not a too long time later, on the one TV that we all shared in our bedroom, suddenly we were watching the chuckie movie and I had no where to go and no where to hide. I had to watch.

Traumatized the fucking livingjesus out of me. I was so scared I started to scream and cry for the movie to be turned off and finally won by turning off the cable box which had the longest reset time in the world.

But by winning, I unleashed the most bitter, twisted form of teenage vengeance upon myself.

Like soon after that, My older brother and Sister (15 and 17 at the time) decided to convince me that my Baby Born doll was Evil and I would like go to school and more than once, come back to find like all my stuffed animals hanging from the ceiling and like my baby born with its head all twisted around ala exorcist style and tell me they thought it was evil...

And once I started to get uncomfortable about it, they would go out of their way to make sure I woke up with it staring me in the eye, just harassing me to the point where all they had to do was say they could hear it moving in the closet to get me into hysterics, and then the fear kinda generalized to clowns (because I had a lot of spanish porcelain dolls painted as clowns that i quickly became afraid of)

IT WAS JUST awful and my siblings are fucked up and it kinda put me off from playing in general with anything into finally I didn't play with toys period because it ust made me vulnerable to bullying lol.

As an adult, weirdly enough I love creepy things and all i can think is my poor mom and her 30 bucks tHAT MUST'VE BEEN SO PAINFUL

-The dark
-Several characters: Mewtwo, E.T., Gollum...
-Mirrors (catching myself in one in the dark and imagining my reflection changing... imagining several other fears rearing up behind me while I looked into one... This one was ironically reinforced by the Sesame Street song Monster In The Mirror, which attempted to tell kids mirrors were only as scary as you make them...but it meant they had to show scary mirror stuff to get the point across)
-On the same note, the Grim Grinning Ghosts song from Disneyland Singalong Songs, which was about how "fun" and "non-threatening" a bunch of terrifying big head costume villains cavorting around the Haunted Mansion were supposed to be. NOT BUYING IT, DISNEY. Oh gosh darnit it's stuck in my head again--
-That scene in Where The Red Fern Grows where a kid trips into an axe, that one haunted me for ages
-Spiders
-Classic-style aliens, ie "greys"
-The creepy faces made by the clothing on my shelf
-Mummies

Suffice to say I was a very scared child much of the time. The list of fears has dwindled to The Dark Sometimes, Spiders, and Aliens, with newcomers Knives and Eye Gore.

I've always been afraid of flying insects. Like, even flies scare the crap out of me. :') It's the buzzing that gets me.

I'm also worried about getting sick, and I've always been afraid of that, but I had a dream once when I was like... 8-ish and I still remember it because my skin was peeling and falling off and full of holes and I kinda feel sick remembering it @____@

I was terrified of skeletons as a kid.
In fact, the worst nightmare I'd ever had delivered one to me by pulling a House of Leaves stunt and opening a void in the wall, through which the skeleton ascended a staircase to reach my door. Slowly.
I've gotten over my fear of skeletons, but I'm still scared of House of Leaves shit.

i don't get why this was my childhood fear

When I was little... Brown Lady of Raynham Hall. She still gives me the creeps sometimes. Also I was very specifically scared of rotting skeletons. Not corpses or just-bones skeletons, but ones with flesh still hanging from them. Maybe it was because of the smell it'd give off...
