356 vivacious vampires

Oh vampires! Oh meme! It's October, which is officially Halloween season. And... Himaruya is back? Kind of? Sort of? In a way. I wonder if we'll ever find out what happened on Halloween. Or if it will forever remain... a mystery. Much like the decision making process behind most of these titles.

Enjoy part 356!

today's theme: tv horror anthologies

*insert Crypt Keeper introduction parody here*

Horror anthology TV shows are basically the best. There's just no other way to say it. Whether it's the campy 90s Are You Afraid of the Dark? or the more grisly Tales from the Crypt or even the not-great-but-sometimes-so-so-so-bad-it's-good Freddy's Nightmares--mini horror stories are fun, scary, and a joy to watch.

What are some of your favorite anthology horror shows? any favorite episodes?

I wasn't allowed to watch Are You Afraid of the Dark after a few episodes. I did not handle them well. orz
My enduring fears of that Crypt Keeper aside, I did wonder what the difference between that and Tales from the Crypt were, though.

Well, Are You Afraid of the Dark was aimed at children and Tales from the Crypt was an HBO show aimed at adults! So the biggest difference would be that, even if AYAOTD sometimes had rather morbid plotlines (murdered kids, suicide, etc) it never went as far as Tales from the Crypt in terms of sheer gore, sex and violence.

Well, that is a pretty big difference! Thanks!

I love both of those. Don't know if Twilight Zone can be considered horrorish or not, but I engaged some of that, and of course Outer Limits too.

It's probably classified under science-fiction but there are a lot of creepy Twilight Zone episodes! (Serling's Night Gallery would probably be more "horror")

I admit I don't know if I've ever watched a full episode of Outer Limits D:

I actually liked Outer Limits better than Twilight Zone! But yeah, they had quite a few episodes that were damn creepy, especially for small babu me.

Are You Afraid of the Dark was always my favourite. It's also the one that I remember best.

I did a re-watch a couple of years ago. Some of the episodes were so cheesy, I could hardly watch them. But some were surprisingly good. My favourites were still the ones that I liked best when I was a kid - "The Tale of the Captured Souls" and "The Tale of Station 109.1".

Some episodes are sooo cheesy. But I think it's held up fairly well, especially compared to similar shows produced in that era (like Goosebumps, save a handful of episodes).

The tale of station 109.1 is just so strange! I love it!

I like the ones that have the right balance of "my god, it's the 90s" and creepines. Like The Dangerous Soup and Laughing in the Dark.

It wasn't exactly horror, but my whole family really liked Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction. Some of them got pretty spooky!

As kid I thought the animated series of Tales from the Crypt was really scary, but I still watched the show. Always with adult supervision though.
