[That 'random direction' into the forest takes her near someone else, who's hidden and silent but not nearly as much as he normally would be.]

[He freezes, listening, and then starts to follow her.]

[Fortunately she's even louder than he is]

[Loud she is, and thoughtless. Her head is clearing, her stride becoming more purposeful- and her purpose is leaving. A hand rubbing her neck around and under her collar, she's dragging her bag along, stalking through the undergrowth and pausing only to express concern over ripped stockings (it's a habit).

It's a while before she slows, out of breath, and she looks up and around at the tall trees stabbing into the sky, seeming to circle and cage her. Where did she come from? This was foolish. But the possible presence of another person doesn't even occur to her, yet]

[He tails her for a while. Where is she even going?]

[And when she stops, he stops. And waits.]

[He doesn't know what he wants to do. The instructions were pretty damn clear, but he can weasel his way out of that, he thinks. Maybe.]

[Still. He slinks a bit closer - and there's a snap as he steps on a dry branch.]

[She has no idea, and she hasn't thought to consult her map or check her supplies or anything. In case it wasn't obvious she not only has no survival skills, but no interest in having them.

She has no interest in instructions, either, but still and quiet with no distractions, her ears are as sensitive as a hare's]

...!

[There's only a soft rustle as she spins on her heel, staring into the dark trees in the direction of that voice]

Do not lurk there like a thief.

[But he steps out into her view, anyway.]

[He gives her a look over, now that he can see her properly, and raises an eyebrow.]

What're you at, lady? Goin' to get y'sself offed, crashin' around like you did.

[Blinks at him as he's speaking. She wasn't expecting him]

Norwegen...we have barely begun, you are too hasty. I think it would be dreadfully awkward to begin killing people at this stage. [Brushes off her skirt a bit, though she won't approach him. Wait- ] And do not call me 'lady' unless you mean to follow it with 'Austria'.

Sooner it's started, the sooner 's over-

... Hold on. You know me?

[He gives her another, suspicious look, frowning a bit - he can't remember meeting anyone like this on his travels.]

[She'll ignore that rather destructive-sounding comment]

Yes, I know you. [But he doesn't know her, she gathers. It's dim, the sky distant, but her eyes are searching him.] Forgive me, you will have to explain; are you suffering memory loss, or are you a child? It is too dark here.

[And she's not moving closer, thank you.]

[She might not be moving closer, but he takes another step forward. Being closer doesn't do anything to jog his memory, though. As far as he can tell, he's never seen this puffed-up nation before. He'd remember.]

Ain't either. My memory's fine. 'n I'm not a kid.

[...But he does look differently from his future self, not nearly as tall, and he's aware of this.]

[All she'll do is rest a hand on her hip, not breaking eye contact. She looks rather unperturbed...and unimpressed; he is quite a bit shorter]

Then please remind me of the year.

[There's something in her voice that brings a teacher to mind]

[He hears that note, and he doesn't like it; even frowns a little. Cut the attitude, lady.]

[Her eyes are suddenly cast lower on him, searching. She doesn't want anything to do with a medieval(?) young so-and-so if he's armed]

[He certainly is armed - that Roman sword isn't quite what he's used to, but he can use it. And when he sees her checking for it, his hand goes to the hilt, but lightly. Just a precaution. He doesn't have anything to worry about from this powderpuff, as far as he thinks, but that doesn't mean he's pleased with the way she's taking inventory.]

[And he isn't pleased with what she said, either.]

[Takes a step forward]
