part 362 back to pools

It's August!! That special month where summer is still here but also ending, so the stores never know if they should be stocking swimsuits or back to school supplies. And so, like stores, I am covering my bases with this part title.

Are you excited for any of the recent Hetalia news? I'm interested in seeing what the dolls will look like! I hope they won't look creepy, but with dolls it's about a 50/50 shot, you know.

Enjoy part 362!

today's theme: your halloween costumes

Let's start with something tried and true!

What are you planning on dressing up as for Halloween this year? Are you dressing up at all?

What costumes did you dress up as when you were younger? Make a list (check it twice)! Is there anything you wanted to be, but never got to be on Halloween?

The thread just below reminded me... my mom and I put together a makeshift Rose "jump" costume the Halloween after Titanic came out. It was a thrift shop red bridesmaids dress that we cut down to fit my 11 year old self, then we found a black tulle tablecloth and sewed that over it, then found as sparkly shrub. And, of course, the Heart of the Ocean!

I don't know if I'm dressing up this year. I might just be a witch to hand out candy.

I dressed up as a lot of different things! A witch, devil, princess, fairy, ninja turtle, raggedy anne when I was a toddler...

I always wanted to buy those expensive "deluxe" kid's costumes but we couldn't afford them.

A witch is always a good choice~!

Eh! To be fair, most of those "deluxe" costumes aren't dramatically better than the regular ones. (Except for the nicer brands, I suppose. Like the Disney Store Glinda costume I posted is nicer than the one they sold in regular stores.)

My friend is having a witch party on Halloween so I'm going to be a witch! I'm modeling my costume after some of the outfits they had on AHS: coven!

That sounds AMAZING! I wish I was going to be home on Halloween this year, I'd love to borrow that idea.

Some friends of mine are doing a Batman-themed group, and I've decided to go as Crazy-Cat-Lady-Woman, basically a disheveled Catwoman in a big ol sweater covered in plush cats. Gonna be a warm halloween for me this year!

When I was little, witches were my fallback, but I've been some odd things now and again... Like an oreo, a rather terrifying off-the-shelf Barbie when I was 4 or 5, a female 11th doctor, a pretty terrible athena costume, medusa twice... I should try athena again now that I've got a much better chiton from my mama greece cosplay.

if i'm anything this year it'll be tinkerbell. and at this point it's got to be about 10 years since i first did that. same dress but i've gone through a few pairs of wings '3'

before the tinkerbelling there were lots of years we never did halloween but when we did i think i was animals or ballet characters (or both, firebird...) and one year i halfassed the Duct Tape Fairy because i'd forgot i needed to dress up.

This is going to be the last year that Halloween falls on an anime convention weekend for me for a while, so I'm making the most of it!! Meaning I'm going to make a slight effort to see if any of my friends wants to cosplay this England since I'm cosplaying as this Russia: http://hetarchive.net/scanlations/files/hllp8.gif

I'm going to be re-using my (totally awesome) raven mask. So glad that Halloween is on a weekend this year; it means I won't be too exhausted to dress up.

NIIIIICEEE

some of my better 'zany' costumes have been:
- a bunch of grapes (my mom had me dress all in purple and then taped purple balloons to me)
- a playing card (mom traced out a card design out of poster board and then strapped it to me)
- a 'housewife' (mom dressed me up as a disgruntled version of if she'd just woken up, facemask and hair curlers and housecoat and granny slippers and all)
- a crayon (mom committed brand theft by drawing out the crayola label on a piece of pink posterboard, and fitting me with the pink dunce cap we all knew I deserved)

basically, my mom has the best hallowe'en ideas. By the time I was old enough to do my own hallowe'en costumes they were both lame and uninspired (belly dancer - and that was the last time I went out in public with my stomach bared, evil bunny, hippie, witch, witch, still a witch, always a witch, witch with green hair this time, and then nothing).

ahhhhh idk, this year I may dress as what I wanted to do LAST year (and wasn't really ready for, l-lol). It was gonna be some sort of spider queen thing? But mostly just a black and white thing with spiders and a short web-like over skirt

I always wanted to be a witch for halloween. And also get a store-bought costume. Instead, my mom always made us make our costumes, which was pretty much throwing something together from our closet or dress-up clothes. One year I was an old lady, one time a computer nerd or college student (idk which one, but i carried around a briefcase and a carphone), a princess, a bride, a cat, and a 'chinese lady' when i was like 9 (and I was NOT HAPPY about that, i had something else planned but my mom was like 'oh but this is so much cuter! you're going to do this' and my option was do it and get to trick-or-treat, or dont do it and stay home)

I probably won't dress up this year though. I want to of course, I love halloween, but I don't really have a reason to. No parties, not many kids come down my street, etc.

Heck yeah! I think most people in my group are gonna be Gravity Falls characters.

I think most of my past costumes were animated characters of some sort or another. Always a cosplayer!
