Father

England has never really been Canada's father.

Oh, he raised Canada, took him in, helped the boy grow into a man. Canada is grateful to him and admiring of him and still loyal to him, and if England saw Canada the way Canada sees him all would be well.

But when he waves eagerly to England in the halls, he's always met with the same response.

"Oh! America! There you are!"

And when he turns away, barely hiding how much it hurts, and runs away from England through the halls, it's not England's arms that wrap around him warmly. It's not England's voice that asks what's wrong, what happened this time. It's not England's fingers that thread their way through the hair Canada shares with his father.

Canada knows very well who his real father is, and he willingly buries himself in his arms, knowing that at least one person regards him as a true son.
