I'm sure of the reasons why, but I also hate this ship SO FUCKING MUCH. It's just so predictably... shoujo, I guess you can say. Like, "OMG he's a dick and she beats him up all the time LOLOLOL IT MUST BE LUV (AND/OR UST)".

And yes, it's also to do with OOC-ness and fangirl insertion, but most that I've seen have been quite subtle about these things so far.

I find Austria/Hungary boring. I really tried to like it, but it does nothing for me. And Sweden/Finland, because I see it pretty much one-sided.

I love culturally diverse America, and I love him when he's reflecting his history (maybe not necessarily consciously--actually, maybe especially when he's doing it subconsciously).

I love self-reliant Canada. I don't mind the manry!!11 interpretations too much, since they tend to be reasonably restrained for the most part, but I still prefer a good balance between his retiring personality and the sheer grit he has for survival and taking care of himself.

France as a frivolous being who nevertheless is an intellectual, and while flighty, is usually a considerate lover when he wants to be. And just anything beyond the badtouch cardboard-cutout thing.

CULTURALLY AND POLITICALLY-SAVVY RUSSIA.

Punk and/or flatly tough-as-nails!England who doesn't crumble at every little thing, isn't some appendage of America, and doesn't lose all his testosterone the second America steps into the room (unless it's crack!fic).

Okay I'm done. Actually, one more: valleygirl!phoenix!Poland is my favorite thing ever. Ever.

I used to hate Lithuania with anyone but America, but I am warming up to Lithuania/Belarus, a little bit. For some reason I can't see him being romantic with Poland at all, even though I've read some fics like that. And I won't even go into Russia/Lithuania.

I don't dislike Austria/Hungary but I've never bothered to read any fic of it.

I like US/UK but I'm extremely sick of it at the moment, for reasons that people have ranted about to death, so...yeah.

Also not a huge fan of Spain/Romano, and I usually forget Sweden/Finland exists.

I don't like Russia/Baltics. I dislike Russia/Estonia a little less than the others, because I've read one or two fics that were all right, but in general, I just plain don't like it at all.

I've read way too many just plain disturbing Russia/Baltic fics, and I just can't handle it. Yick, yick, no. No thank you. I try not to dismiss it completely - it might work if one sets the story in a period before Russia goes completely off his rocker, so to speak - but I haven't really seen anything like that.

In a few words: Too much goddamn Baltic rape. :| And the stuff in which they're matched with Russia is almost always rape, or violent, or disturbing in some way. Argharghargh.

I wouldn't mind the Russia/Baltics so much if there was more variety with the Baltic pairings; I mean, here's pretty much what's out there:
Russia/Lithuania, Poland/Lithuania, the occasional America/Lithuania
Russia/Latvia, Latvia/Sealand
Russia/Estonia

Any other numbers are too small to even register on the map, really. A real pain in the ass, because essentially there isn't much for me to read. If there was more variety, at least I'd have... something.

Not to mention, these places have a long history, and there's just --- argh, there's so much more that could be done with them than just pairing them up with Russia! Estonia, for example, was practically passed around like a ten-dollar whore for most of his existence, and - I can't recall the number of historical matches based purely on that, but it was around six.


While I'm still talking about the Baltics, I fucking hate Baltic/Baltic pairings. Geh. And yet, I'm not even sure if I can articulate why. It seems so incestuous, even though it's totally not, and that kind of hits my squick buttons. I don't really see much chemistry between any of them, either. I mean, maybe a really good fic could convince me that it could work, but I just can't see it at all. Furthermore, most of the stuff I've read with these matches takes place when they're under Russia's control, which adds an extra side of squick somehow, though I can't really articulate why.

... Guh. It's way too late at night for me to be ranting like this. :|

TL;DR: I hate Russia/Baltic pairings, I hate Baltic/Baltic pairings, and I wish there was more variety in Baltic matches so that I'd actually have something to read. ARGH.

Oh, good. D: Yeah no, I actually love hearing others opinions, so I'm always all for having these discussions but then, I can be sometimes fickle when it comes to small random things and I end up agreeing with them because they sway me. But!

I can see the other side of just wanting to write a pairing to soothe others but it's like, I prefer when there's more context and stuff because at the bottom of everything, we're talking about COUNTRIES and it's not just black and white; there's a lot more to what they do, and it seems that sometimes people forget that.

I'm sorry for even bringing that pairing up because I could really go on forever, and I really wanted to like it it's just that 98% of the fic for it seems to be... exactly what you said. And it's just jsjdkaslk. But yeah, I think it's the only pairing that I really don't like reading.

Agreed so hard with you there. And again, people seem to forget that! It's frustrating, to have all this potential (because, really, England and France have so much history that it would be pretty hard to just... ignore it), and then the author just doesn't even bother with it at all, or throws it out the window, and it's like "you could have been great! D:"

So I want to post my own OC *gasp* at the Latino Hetalia Community, but at the same time I get nervous and talk myself out of it....It has to do with the fact that:
1) I haven't written in my native tongue since who knows how long and am afraid of making mistakes.
2) I’ll be really shallow here and say that the only reason I made the character was because I wanted to see it in native wear.
4) I only know the basic history of my country (err....I was young when we had to run away from my dad). font size="1">However, I do know far more when it comes to relationships with the US
3) There's already two OCs in there, so I don't want it to look like I'm competing or something....

I hate Prussia/Hungary somewhat, I guess. Especially when the fic forgets/denies the fact Hungary was married to Austria. And she still pretty much loves Austria in canon strips.

And then fic goes, "I don't think I ever loved Austria at all! It's all you, Gilbert my loovveeeeeee!"

... yeah.

I pretty much see Prussia/Hungary as a one sided thing anyway. Same goes with Prussia/Austria. The concept of HATESEX never sat well with me.

-I have yet to see some fan work where either fo the Italies actually says something deep or insightful without getting OOC--specially Feliciano. okay, this is not fanon....it's only my personal opinion
