Hold Fast

Noise and shouting and people running. The air was thick with fear, smelled of it, but there was an undercurrent of anger, too, and it was quickly rising.

They came on the boats, those ones. He had clashed against them before, and surely he would see them again - but that did not matter, as this moment was his only concern. Get everyone to safety. Yes. In the din and the smoke he could see him, that one with the wolf's grin on his face, huge as a mountain and wielding an axe big as a tree pulled up by the roots. There he was.

By all the gods, he'd caught sight, and was coming closer.

He blacked out shortly after that.

He could hear singing in the darkness. As he slowly regained consciousness he listened and steadily became more aware of the voice and the words.

A healing song.

You will go together, you flesh
You will go together, you bones
Solid as a well-made shelter
For you love yourself so

As the quiet words registered, he cracked open his eyes, then shut them tightly. Though the light was dim, it stung. At that point he became acutely aware of the pain shooting through him and he let out a low groan.

"Ah, you're awake."

"Nngh." He opened his eyes once again and blinked slowly, forcing himself to adjust in spite of the pain, as in the dim light he saw a familiar face smiling at him with endlessly welcome warmth. "S-sss." His throat was dry. He wetted his lips, then tried again. "Soome."

"Shhh." Two fingers pressed to his mouth. "Don't speak. Just rest."

Drink was offered, and he accepted. As he drank eagerly, the words continued, quiet as a breeze's whisper. "And you will go together, you skin, and blood, you will flow in your path... You took quite a beating, my love." A pause. "You'll be all right. You just need rest." Those words were accompanied by a quiet sigh and a gentle hand stroking his cheek. "Broken ribs. He wasn't here long." Having said his piece, he resumed his singing.

They both knew that the time of healing would have to be quick. They both knew that one would come again.

Ffff, noticed a few errors. Please forgive, it's late and I'm on autopilot.

Germany frowns at the anomalous spaghetto some more, and then unhooks it from Italy’s curl. Before Italy can protest, he shoves it into his mouth and proceeds to crunch it up.

“G-Germany!” Italy whines, looking like he’s on the edge of tears. Germany swallows Amato.

“Now help me with the pasta sauce,” he commands Italy, who stares at him like he had just stabbed Kiku Honda in the guts. It was a look of slight fear, sadness, but mostly confusion. And then quite inexplicably, Italy brightens up.

“Now Amato is a part of Germany? He’s inside Germany?” he inquires, smiling again.

“Er,” says Germany, and decides that lecturing Italy on the procedures of the digestive system could be held off until later. “Yes, if you want to see it that way,” he mutters, because answering otherwise could have Italy bawling and he didn’t possess the energy to deal with that now.

So Italy hops off his perch, moves up to Germany, and leans up so his hair curl bops Germany on the ear.

“What? What are you doing?” blinks Germany, perplexed beyond all comprehension. Italy giggled.

“I’m making my hair curl communicate with Amato inside you!”

At first, Germany found it ridiculous. Then he laughed a little, but only inwardly. After Italy spent the rest of their cooking session latched onto Germany, hands around his neck, so he could have his hair curl “communicate to Amato” and kept tickling Germany on the ear with his curl, Germany just wanted to go curl up and sleep until Italy forgot all about it.

Of course, it didn’t help either, that Italy kept voicing imaginary conversations between his hair curl and the strand of spaghetto that Germany had, without forethought, consumed.

“So when we are married, shall we curl lovingly around each other every night?” Italy said, all too close to Germany’s ear, his voice slightly higher than usual.

“But of course, sweetheart!” he answered himself, as Germany stirred the pasta sauce. “We’ll curl lovingly together and sing the sweetest songs and make so many pasta-hair children!”

HAHAHAHAHAHHAA I DON'T KNOW WHY BUT I'VE BEEN LAUGHING AT THIS FOR A MINUTE NOW AND I CAN'T STOPPP

Ah, in that case I definitely agree with you. I'd love to read something dealing with the Sino-Soviet Split as well, but I haven't seen anything yet.

Well... America has a shitload of state-tans. XD *cough* But I think people just took the idea of personification and ran with it--I've mostly seen state-tans depicted as either the biological or 'adopted'/budded-off/binary-fissioned children of the nations, which is mostly amusing for interaction and vaguely crack purposes. Haven't really read any (I think) serious fic with them. So, they're just there for fun, and a little messing around with the personifications of things, I think. \o/ Some people like 'em, some loathe 'em, sort of like the nation OCs we get anyway. All in a day's Hetalia.

I was SO excited to see that coloured Iceland chibi. I was honestly grateful for his work but-

Why did he have to colour his eyes purple? In all the past designs and pictures he's drawn, he's had really sharp, light blue eyes. I always found them entirely captivating. Now, the magic is lost. Tons of new Iceland pics on pixiv have those purple eyes now.

But yeah, I dunno. It's like, nice to start out with if you're just playing around and want something with solid context, but then after a while there's all this other random/cool bits of history you find to play with. But then again, I always do that in fandom, too.

I started out shipping Wright/Edgeworth and by the time I was done I now ship Gant/Kristoph as my OTP. (Probably giving myself away here, haha.)

Then again, my starter was always my strongest...hmmm. But I did start using other Pokemon once I got bored with being so strong. Like Drifloon. So cute.
