Except even with credit, the person reposting is a) violating the TOS of Pixiv. ("Prohibited acts: ... Reprinting of image data from this site without the creator's permission.") and b) violating copyright law (re: Copyright of images "All image data posted on this service are the copyright of the user who created the images.") and c) being rude as shit, because it's accepted in Japan that you do not repost images without express, blatant permission.

It doesn't matter if you (general you) give credit. You shouldn't repost the art without asking first. Not only are you violating Pixiv's TOS and the general culture of the website and Japanese fanart sites, you're violating their copyright. And they could legally report you to Tumblr or whatever other site you're uploading on and potentially get your blog deleted.

I still haven't forgotten the fact that you killed my goldfish by saying you were going to feed them while we were away on vacation and didn't, then made up some bullshit excuse saying they died because of the high temperature that summer (I can think of MANY reasons why it couldn't have been that). I really liked those goldfish and had them for many years, but I wouldn't have been that angry if you had just admitted to having forgotten to feed them.

I don't understand USUK's popularity at all. It just doesn't appeal to me and I think it's honestly boring.

Not to mention that I very much doubt that the reason most people repost art is to give the artists exposure. It's to get notes and attention. I used to post a lot of fanart from Pixiv because it was such an easy way to get followers and likes and I loved the feeling of being the first person to post a pic to the tags right after it had shown up on Pixiv.

echoing what everyone else is saying in this thread

the other main reason is that a lot of Japanese artists tend to get "embarrassed" by their own works and often delete them when

a) they change fandoms/pairings/types of art in general
b) they lose interest in posting fanart/participating in the japanese/eastern side of fandom
c) they decide they just didn't like their previous works for some reason or another, thus deletion occurs

often, if you translate pixiv profiles, there's some sort of message that says along the lines of 'at times deletion may occur [because of embarrassment (or at a whim)]', followed by some sort of an apology.

It's one thing if the website specifically sets it up to share on Tumblr (like deviantart) but Pixiv =/= Deviantart. And in fact, even when you "share" using the options Pixiv allows users to enable, it's usually a link and a tiny thumbnail, not the full resolution image.
