Not recently, but yeah. I kind of like it when it's a little emotionally messy. It could be pretty rich, interesting stuff if fans dug into the meat of the characters.

Ned's so blunt, Japan's staunchly indirect. Culture clash at its finest.

I've never RPed it before, but I wouldn't mind trying.

I never go past a platonic relationship between them when it comes to writing, though.

I assume it's because America/Japan has more obvious friendly interaction in canon, despite their history. It's pretty hard to miss.

There's likely further historical reasons too where China/Japan is concerned, but yeah, not to go off topic...

Plus America and his pairings are a lot more popular in fandom than China, the Asians, and the Asian pairings are in general.

Hit or miss. China isn't very shippable to me. For the most part I like them as good friends, with Russia crushing on China and China pinching his cheeks.

Idk I just feel like, from my experience (more so on other venues than the meme, since we don't talk about it much) people bring up the Rape of Nanking/general treatment of China during WW2 as a reason they don't like China/Japan. But.... America firebombed Japanese citizens and targeted civilian areas for two atomic bombs? So?

As friends or more, just love seeing these guys as pals. They seem like they'd be comfortable enough with each other to get on each other's cases for fun. Hours-long conversations about absolutely nothing. Slap fights! Maybe touching each other's junk.

I would assume it's because America and Japan's relations in modern day are good. Japan and China's, not so much.

Despise is a strong word, but I don't like it when Italy is portrayed as a perfect little angel who always cowers from Germany. Or everyone but Japan and Hungary if the fic is particularly bad.

Fuckin' A. Complicated relationship where they've known each other long enough to know what they're up against and kind of trust each other and used to not get along so it's a little messy but they've worked on it and there's bigger shit out there than their petty squabbles so they'll put it aside? Hell yes.

Also fine if they're awkward and stubborn and in denial about it.

It's my big sister duty to listen to any of Brüderchen's problems, don't you worry about it.
