Speaking of alternate depictions of the nations, and sleazy Italy in particular (at least, I think this dude's meant to be Italy):
I collect vintage postcards and I'm somewhat sad that I didn't get this one in time. Oh well!
And yeah, I would've expected more aggression from almost all the nations - but then again I'm used to satirical personifications of nations, not mostly cute ones as in Hetalia. Actually, America surprised me the most because I thought he'd be way more of a gun-toting swaggering jock type (I mean c'mon, this is even how Americans depict America). On the other end of it, I certainly didn't expect Switzerland's trigger-happy tendencies. And I would've thought Spain would be less mellow, more fiery-tempered. And England would wear a tophat and monocle at all times. And Russia would be like⦠almost the opposite of Hetalia Russia, honestly, more like someone who frowns all the time and is outwardly aggressive and emotional but has a hidden softer side.
ETA: Also, I don't think anyone expected England's eyebrows. We were all woefully unprepared.
