part 349 heart shaped chocolates

Hi meme! Happy Valentine's day! I hope you have a sweet one. (Get it? Sweet? Because... chocolates and candies. Yeahhh.) Sadly, I don't think a candle in the window for Himaruya has led him home--yet. It's all very romantically tragic. Or tragically romantic. I don't know.

Enjoy part 349!

you're cooler

and it's a style thing. An extra step if you're OCD and picky about colors.

Sometimes it just a nice thing to add if you disagree with the colors of something or you've finished a coloring and you think it looks too boring or you messed it up and are too lazy to recolor it. Instead of starting over or recoloring, a gradient can make it look a lil nicer.

To be can candid, It's something i do with my own art when i finish something and my colors look a little off or washed out

It's just a quick fix cheat that you gotta train your eyes with. It's possible to over do it or do it wrong too. Sometimes one color filter works, sometimes two colors work better and different filters work. Just explore and tweak to your preferences.

For example w/ really quick icons just to show

OH YOU WEREN'T CLEAR

i can explain this too it's not too hard.

This is the tool.

For colors, I go for anypink/blue combo lmao it doesnt matter...

Lighter shades when you want it lighter, darker when you want it darker. If you want oranges, go for oranges. If you want greens go for greens. It doesn't matter.

You can draw it any direction but the direction you go for it is the direction the colors will fall

like so.

Then you just go to the layer section and under normal a drop down should pop up..

and viola those are your choices of filter

You can attempt! I just have zero intuition about where things are supposed to be shaded. No matter what I'll have to find someone else who did it and copy them based on angle and even then it turns out wrong or too deep. I give up on art.

REALLY RUDIMENTARY SHADING TIPS

[personal profile] dererste 2014-02-19 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
Okay let's do this

First off, for me one of the most confusing thing was where exactly I should be putting the shadows on icons. Icons are usually faces and let's be real, with hima's art, we don't really have a lot to work with, so luckily shading his canon art is pretty simplified. This is kinda a himaruya specific tutorial

I tried to show it in all kinds of different ways it should look. I just tried to break it down. I wanted to stress how minimalist it is. You're not doing anything complex, it's really just a few lines.

and it's just a few colors. I suggest also pulling colors directly from something else you like. Picking your owncolorscan get iffy fast if you're not experienced.

As for shadows, it really is just the same places. I've highlighted it here

As you can see, canon art doesn't really need a complex coloring bc it's not a complex style. Even himaruya uses really basic shading

and

I HOPE THIS HELPS A LITTLE. Shading is a really complex ass part of coloringand it's hard to really know what you are doing and even harder to kinda explain it... I'll answer any questions.

Also shading is kinda optional on it's own if you use reallyvibrant, saturated bright colors like the ones in these

like this person did .This person cleaned up and relined and bolded the lines a bit though, that's why it looks so poppy

But just persevere, my children, nothing worthwhile is easy!!
