part 353 whalers on the moon

We've been here over a year now! I can hardly believe it! Dreamwidth's been pretty good, I'd say, with almost no downtime to speak of and all that! Anyway... how is your spring going? Or I guess it's almost summer, isn't it? Hopefully it's been well! I've been catching up on work and new movies, all very exciting stuff, I'm sure.

Enjoy part 353!

I automatically judge people who love a pairing so much that they can't stand the idea of pairing the characters with anyone else but each other.

Volumes 1-6
Seasons 1-4 and the movie, with season 5 on its way
Hungary and Austria one-coin figures
Lithuania and Poland stick poster
China metal charm I bought off a friend because it was so tiny and cute
and a Poland rubber strap I found at a convention flea market
I agree with the other anon, I'm almost never interested in Hetalia merchandise unless it's based on one of Himaruya's drawings, anime DVDs aside.

That said, I'd really like to have the Character CDs and Drama CDs since I can't find the complete files ANYWHERE. But haha yeah right, good luck, and with what money? Anyway.
Like half the fandom, I want to be able to afford some version of Arte Stella, and this is something I might actually manage soon. And I want a Lithuania rubber strap. And I wanted to buy it at a convention but the last two haven't had it. I don't think I've ever seen the yura yura clips anywhere, but maybe that's not a total loss. I'm not sure if I want one because... DEEN...

I wish there were yura yura clips that weren't DEEN. And I wish there were more posters of Himaruya's art, like with multiple characters on them. That way, I won't feel like a weirdo who has That One Poster Of That One Character. I don't know why it bugs me so much, but it does.

There are certain pairings (not necessarily in this fandom) that I'd really like to avoid seeing split up with other partners. I wouldn't badmouth it, I'd just avoid it.

But personal preference stops when you start shitting on other people for shipping your ships with other people.

I wouldn't say I judge them, but every now and then I see a few people in my corner of the fandom insist that these two characters can't have had any romantic relationships before they found each other. And I'm so confused because both characters have been around at least since the Middle Ages. Are you seriously headcanoning that they're each other's first for everything?

I don't know what's going on in that Family Headcanon thread, but I'm judging it. Like are you just being difficult and saying England's brothers aren't really his brothers, did you just not know, or are you just that bored. ≖⌓≖

I don't like the headcanon that Prussia raised Germany with the intention of building a perfect nation who would replace him one day.

Italy lost!

I'd elaborate more on England and Scotland, but I know how much some people here hate OCs. Even though we used to talk about certain nations like they were canon characters.

But I got like six hours of sleep last night and I'm regressing to a pissy and critical 14-year-old right now.

I'm one of the OC hating anons and I just want to say that please don't let anyone else's opinion stop you from posting what you like!

I'll admit that I'm curious. If you don't mind posting it after what I said (I'm just one anon failing to fight off a pissy mood, I'm sorry), please go on.

France in canon doesn't strike me as a doting parent type, because he's kind of irresponsible and more concerned with sleeping around and everything. England, as a "big brother" seems much more emotionally involved with America than "big brother" France is with, let's say, Italy.

For the history, there's the fact that the French didn't care as much about developping their North-American colonies in the 17th-18th century as the British did for various reasons, and mainly used New France as a place to harvest furs and the likes. They used their vast territory often as a bargaining chips in peace treaties in the 18th century (War of Spanish Succession, War of the Augsburg League, War of Austrian Succession...). When the Seven Years War came around, France put most of its efforts into the fighting that was taking place in Europe and didn't send a whole lot of help to its North American colonies. The idea of giving up New-France after their defeat in Europe was to keep the colonies it had in Central America. (French Philosopher Voltaire said about it that it was better to harvest the sweet sugar of the southern islands than to fight for a few acres of snow, which sort of reflects how the French aristocracy viewed the American colonies.) England won over New-France, renamed it Province of Quebec, and while the British imposed their rule by force and did a lot of bad things, especially to the natives that were allies of the French, they were forced to let the French keep their religion and language by various circumstances, most notably the American Revolution, because they didn't want the French colons to revolt with the patriots. The British also played a major role in developping the territories that would later become modern-day Canada, through the large influx first of Royalists after the Revolutionary War, British immigration and British capital during the 19th century.

So yeah, that's just how I see it when I have to write it, France being more of "that guy who took care of me kinda badly when I was young" and England really being Canada's father, in a way. But hey, you give me a good FACE family story and I'm all about cute fatherly interaction between Canada and France ;).

Pretty much this. I have one or two pairings that I love so much I don't like to see the characters with anyone else. I can't help it, it just happened.

But I don't shove my preference down other people's throats, and I definitely don't badmouth other pairings. Or act like a dick towards fans of them. Seriously, fuck all those people who feel the need to put down other pairings instead of just avoiding them. I just don't get the point at all.

My headcanon is that England and Ireland are cousins and Scotland is more Ireland's brother than anyone else's, because they both have Gaelic origins. But due to a combination of resentment against Ireland and assumptions of other nations that Scotland and England are brothers, they just rolled with it, despite their rivalry.

Wales is England's half-brother.

And England's out. Switzerland is losing spectacularly this moment. Let's not forget Spain, either.

This world cup is weird.

Don't get me wrong I'm glad they beat Italy and Uruguay but what is going on with Costa Rica and why aren't they at the bottom of their group?

Are they on steroids or something?

But it's canon. They're at least half brothers of different 'fathers' imo
