We've been here over a year now! I can hardly believe it! Dreamwidth's been pretty good, I'd say, with almost no downtime to speak of and all that! Anyway... how is your spring going? Or I guess it's almost summer, isn't it? Hopefully it's been well! I've been catching up on work and new movies, all very exciting stuff, I'm sure.

I can tolerate them but it bothers me when someone is given the same surname as their family member just because they're related (unless it's AU). Like Beillschimdt for Germany, Braginskaya for Ukraine or (ugh) Zwingli for Liech (She's. Adopted!)

The Italies share a surname because they are the same country. England and Sealand share a surname because Sealand is a minor and not a true country.

America and Canada have different surnames. Russia and Belarus have different surnames.

I'm considering buying an apartment and am going to visit a potential one tomorrow. I've looked up lots of stuff online, but does meme have any tips on what kind of details to look at or what kind of questions to ask?

Research the area to see if the things you want (supermarkets, bars, idk) are nearby, as well as the prices of apartments nearby so you'll know the price is reasonable.

Ask about maintenance charges and whether it's included in the price or not.

Don't appear too enthusiastic even if you love it so you can drive a hard bargain later. You could say things like "Oh I like it but I don't like the color/I'll have to fix this and that" or something.

Oh, not showing enthusiasm is a really good tip! I never even thought of that. It's really hard for me not to show my excitement and I already love this place based on the photos, so I'm going to have a hard time with that, haha. Thank you, anon!

In that case you could look for a flaw in the apartment and focus on that to keep you from getting too enthusiastic, but keeping that flaw in mind could also sour you a little in the long run.

You oould also try to imagine it with a lot of fake problems, like imagine the faucets leaking and going through all the trouble of fixing that or having to call someone to fix that or having loud drunks nearby every day or a lot of road maintenance, foul smells coming from somewhere, things like that. Or imagine how dirty the pipes and foundations are.
