We've been here over a year now! I can hardly believe it! Dreamwidth's been pretty good, I'd say, with almost no downtime to speak of and all that! Anyway... how is your spring going? Or I guess it's almost summer, isn't it? Hopefully it's been well! I've been catching up on work and new movies, all very exciting stuff, I'm sure.

Yeah, some of my absolute favourite videos were deleted by the creator. I very much doubt they can be found reposted anywhere since they were so obscure in the first place.

The parody of Ragnar & Healie's song by Hyadain, called "Germany and Italy's song".

It's long since been deleted from youtube, but I still have it saved on my computer... and my iPod.

Polyushka Polye was also amazing.

And there was this one involving Russia where it was like... really brightly colored, but also dark and creepy, and the music was cool and creepy, and the chorus went like (in Japanese, but with subtitles) "late at night i hate myself"... does anyone remember that one? I can't even remember what it was called.

North Americans are weird as heckie. I don't mean it as an insult, I promise, I like weird people, it's just that, you hear so much stuff about, say, Japanese people being weird, or even Europeans, but North Americans to me are just...so much weirder.

In itself, I don't mind rape in fic or art or headcanons etc. I think it can be a good metaphor for an invasion and destruction.

It's just super overused and very few writers have any of idea of how to write rape, especially in a respectful and dramatic way.

Speaking as someone who is both North and South American.... North Americans are really weird.

Actually, I read a science journal a while back that showed something really cool. Because most psychological research is done in the United States, the USA social psychology results are considered "normal" and applied universally to other humans. But, this group of researchers expanded to research other countries and discovered that on a global scale, Americans are actually the outliers! This actually throws into question decades of research since it was assumed that USA results were good enough. They then concluded that they should use diverse international sample sizes from then on.

So every time you hear some sort of behavioural study and think "that's totally bullshit!" it's pretty likely the sample only accounted for Americans, and Americans are weird. Internationally speaking.

Unpopular on tumblr it looks like from the plethora of cutsey comics about it, but being possessive and super jealous when your friend makes new friends is not cute at all.

The only kind of cosplay posts I like are those where people have put obvious effort into their costumes, poses, setting etc. I'm not saying people can't cosplay if they can't/won't do that because cosplay is also about being social and hanging out with friends.

But what the makes people think that taking a quick selfie with your phone while wearing a wig and an old T-shirt that the character in question wouldn't wear is worth posting to the character tag?

A description of Lithuania’s character traits says that he’s “easy to take advantage of”. At first that struck me as a typical character flaw. Okay, so he’s a little naïve and gullible. Then, I read about Lithuania during WWII. Lithuania was one of the first nations where the Final Solution was implemented and consequently is considered one of the places the Holocaust started. Furthermore, there was general cooperation with Nazi occupiers because of their exploitation of anti-Soviet sentiment. What makes this so horrifying is that Lithuania is one of the kindest characters in Hetalia. That just gave this troper the chills: that his desire to get out from under Russia was so strong that Lithuania may allowed himself to be manipulated into doing something completely out of character. That, ladies and gentlemen, is a well developed character flaw.

God I hate those. I used to follow this person who posted tons of self-pitying sob stories whenever their friend went out with someone else. Jfc, people are allowed to have more than one friend and you don't have the right to be part of every group they belong to!

It's something I've come to notice only recently because I grew up around a lot of North American-imported stuff and I was too much into it to notice when I was younger, but, yeah.

That's actually very interesting! It makes...a surprising amount of sense.

I have stopped reading history posts in this fandom because almost without fail, the tone is incredibly condescending and tries to be funny (and fails). And SO MANY of these "ok, bitches, let me tell you some facts about this" posts are incredibly biased in how they pick only those historical details that support the OP's headcanon while leaving out everything else.
