Well, I agree with anon above that you should let them know if you're willing to work things out, and let them know that regardless of your argument, you still care about them, are willing to be there for them, and want them to be safe. At least, that'd be what I'd do.

If they get angry for you showing that you're willing to patch things up and be there for them, well, that's kind of their issue at that point. As long as you communicate your feelings about this honestly and let them know that you care, I don't think you'd be in the wrong for approaching them. Especially when they're feeling such a serious thing.
