I love doujinshi, even though my Japanese is so bad that I can barely read a word here and another there. But I just love looking at the pictures and holding the books in my hands.
I mostly buy Germancest because it provides me with everything I want: either history or well-drawn smut with my kinks. I also buy every Prumano book that comes out, which is about five books a year or so.
It's kind of a shame that the doujinshi-producing side of the fandom has shrunk so much, at least when it comes to pairings and characters I like. I miss the kind of epic historical doujins that used to come out, such as Adler des Schlachtfeldes, Die nationale urlandschaft des Sonnenunterganges or The Mass. These days, most books seem to be gag comedy, generic sex or the characters just hanging out in modern days. Kind of similar to the problems people complain in the fanfic threads. I'm convinced the reason is that canon has also moved away from more historical content and therefore doesn't provide the same kind of inspiration and material to work with as it used to.
Does anyone have a collection post? I remember seeing a few in the Hetalia sales community back in the day and recently on Tumblr and I always love looking at what other people have, especially if it's stuff I don't collect myself because I'm much less familiar with it. Here's mine: http://killerorange87.dreamwidth.org/454.html
