Aw man, that sucks. I'm so sorry. I hope it goes away soon!
Last time I had this, it lasted about five weeks. I'd wake up several times in a night, either because of a coughing fit or because my throat eventually got so sore I would wake up from the pain (or not be able to sleep in the first place). Swallowing was so horrible I sometimes got tears in my eyes. 95% of any class was spent trying to suppress coughing fits so I ended up not being able to pay attention to what was being said. And yeah, people looked at me funny because dry coughing for weeks isn't really something you usually do.
Unfortunately, nothing I tried really helped either. I did constantly have cough drops in my mouth, but I feel like they numbed my tongue more than my throat. Cough medicine generally succeeded in aiding me suppress the coughs for a short time though, so I kept a bottle at my bedside and took it whenever I woke up coughing.
