It's a bit more complex than that, it seems. Some people have done some sleuthing and it seems that all of the confirmed closings have other brand theater chains nearby which are more expensive--so I think this is MP's trying to tell AMC 'see what we can do to your revenue if you won't play our game?' since MP is trying to get theaters to agree to give them a % of profits.
