i just saw hereditary and i'm blown away. it took a certain horror element that i usually find pretty hokey, and made it so smart and effective. (and no, it's not a cheap ~it was all a dream~ cop-out ending, i promise.) super recommend.
i also feel like this is one of those horror films that will be more appreciated by people who prefer serious drama stuff - it reminded me somewhat of august: osage county for example. like if you took out all the supernatural/potentially supernatural components, you'd still have a compelling "horror" story in the sense of watching the way this family falls apart, how easy it is to lose control of yourself, how your good intent can be little buffer against your worst innate tendencies.
