i agree, it's sad. and also kind of funny, in the sense that this kind of rigid hivemind of righteousness gives fuel to the true mra types, who in turn make radicalized progressive fandom more hysterical, seeing the chauvinist patriarchal bogeyman in everyone and mistaking common human nature.

^THIS, so much. the vast majority of male AND female viewers DO get crushes on their fictional favs (of whatever gender/shape/color), DO - oh dearie me - ~sexualize~ and ~objectify~ them in their imaginations or in their fanart/fanfic, that's just a human thing not a specifically male thing or a somehow scary predatory thing. it's normal. and whoever it's "for" is irrelevant.
i just stay out of fandom these days. it used to enhance the enjoyment of the original to check out the fandom/fanon, but nowadays it mostly annoys me and in a couple cases ruins the original for me. i'm only willing to hang on pixiv and instagram for fanart.
