I would recommend Cujo! Although it's very dark and depressing and rather unpleasant.
Doctor Sleep, the sequel to the Shining, you might like if you can toss aside any notions that it will be scary or thematically similar to The Shining. It's definitely a "modern" King novel. It isn't bad but I went into it expecting The Shining But Danny is Grown Up and got... like... modern psychic vampires and a precocious child and AA meetings. I realize I am not selling this book very well lol.
