i've had many gruesome nightmares over the years, i think some recently but nothing that sticks out in my remembrance, to my relief.
i also had a nightmare once when i was home alone that i woke in the middle of the night while a fire was going on, and my neighbor was trying to put it out (i could see it through the front window). when i woke, i went downstairs to call my parents just to check if they were okay, and right as i touched the phone, my mom called.
i also had another weird...nightmare? recently that has been bothering me. i say "nightmare" because i woke up with my heart pounding and feeling nauseous, but it wasn't something traditionally frightening. in fact i wasn't sure if it was supposed to be a good thing??? maybe?? i dreamt my mom came in while i was sleeping to say along with the birds and squirrels coming to get fed in the backyard, she'd caught a woman coming, but this woman would skitter away every time she was seen. the sense i got was that she was maybe homeless and saw potential food where the animals were getting it. mom left me for her room, saying she was going to leave a letter for the woman to find next time she came. while she did, i slipped out of bed and snuck downstairs, then came at a run at the backdoor, thinking i'd at least catch a quick glimpse of the woman if she was here. instead there was just a family of turkeys making their way down the hill that halted when they saw me, but also at the edge of the deck, propped up, was a knitted pentagram in dark brown outline and white background.
i woke up in actual morning and after i finished telling my mom about the dream, i looked outside and a giant turkey feather blew up to my feet at the backdoor. i washed it and kept it.
i had sleep paralysis once where i was awoken on my back--and i never sleep on my back--to see a lank-haired girl in a hospital gown, crouched frog-like upside down on the corner of my ceiling. i was in a panic to turn the light on before she could get to me, but couldn't move my body. i felt like i had to use such force to finally tear myself up eventually and get to the light switch. luckily the year before i'd learned about sleep paralysis so i didn't put any stock into it, otherwise maybe i'd have thought it was real D:
