had a dream himaruya had a new hetalia website with a world map you could click on different points of and see new nation-tans, but of course most were vague group pictures with no names given.
but the big twist was he made an actual canon quebec and there was mass confusion and wank, because she was just igiko with curly pigtails and people wondered why she'd have england's brows if she was the french canada. she also had a SKIRT.

it's been a coupla months so I'll have to skim over it again to discuss it seriously but for now: you can tell it's a story written with a lot of thought and care and love put into it. I happened to find it at a time when I really needed something like that after spending more than a year social distancing, so emotionally speaking, at least for me, it worked well with the weird place where we are in history rn but was still distant enough from it (since it's set in ww2) not to make me hit the back button. also it was refreshing to read a historical fic on a bunch of nations that aren't the allies/axis and their relations with each other, you know?

plus iceland's pov. just. wow. icelandic poetry and mythology play a really important role here, and it both brought me so much joy to learn about this whole new subject and reminded me why I loved hetalia to begin with. him reflecting on his younger years with norway and denmark especially were some of my favorite moments, so wholesome and soft. and his developing relationship with hong kong is so fucking well done! (and there was only one bed................. always a sucker for forced proximity haha) like seeing a silly crack ship treated with so much love and thoughtful care and given time and space to let their relationship breathe and become - I've never read any rarepair fic done this way. like on it's own it would have been enough for me but since I got both this /and/ everything else I talked about... I couldn't ask for more

anyway uhhhhh it's definitely the best hetalia fic I've read this year if not ever and I could probably gush more about it after rereading it
