I had a mandatory meeting during the inauguration, so all I managed to see live was an NYT stream of everything being set up and the band playing. So my entire inauguration hot take wound up as:

I didn’t realize that “Simple Gifts” was a popular marching band song, and hearing a folk dance tune about simplicity played by a gigantic military brass band with tons of extra flourishes and bombast feels.....weird.
