part 342 nightmares on elm street
Nightmare on Elm Street 342: Freddy Applies for a Passport. I think it'll be a hit! Oh, meme. It's still October. The awesome-ist month of the year! For about a week and a half more, anyway. I have been watching horror movies and contemplating putting up fake cobwebs--but I think my cat might eat them. Do you think, meme--do you dare to hope--we might get some Halloween doodles from Himaruya this year?
Enjoy part 342! And whatever you do: don't. fall. asleep.

31 Days of Meme Halloween
Today's Theme: Death and the Maiden
'Death and the Maiden' is a motif/theme that may have first arisen as a subset Danse Macabre. Death and the Maiden paintings, or sculpture or other art typically feature two things: Death. And a maiden. (Shocking, I know!) These paintings would often be somewhat sensual or erotic, as well.
I'm going to share some of my favorite Death and the Maiden paintings. Do you have any favorites, meme?

a corpse is macking on her lips
I'd be making that face too
In fact I think that's literally the only face to make in this situation

Franz Schubert (music) + Matthias Claudius (poem)
The Maiden:
Pass me by! Oh, pass me by!
Go, fierce man of bones!
I am still young! Go, rather,
And do not touch me.
And do not touch me.
Death:
Give me your hand, you beautiful and tender form!
I am a friend, and come not to punish.
Be of good cheer! I am not fierce,
Softly shall you sleep in my arms!
Franz Schubert composed a lied for the poem, which can be heard here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heAjdhLvfQE

Yes, isn't it gorgeous? I couldn't get it out of my mind after I saved it.
