Part 11 comes after Part 10

Part 10 is over! Part 11 is here. If you haven't checked the challenge entry, the challenge has been extended until Part 11 maxes. Hopefully that is enough time for people who are busy with finals and such to find time to enter, if they'd like to!

Should I mention that the number 11 scares me? I really don't like that number. Like how Natalie Portman hated the number 5 (or 6?) in Where the Heart Is. But a higher number. Well, anyway.

Canadanons, please help?

I would like some pro-tips regarding Quebec!Canada's personality because every time I try to imagine him I just see baby America with a silly bowtie and then I laugh my butt off.

Any fic/art recs, opinions, myth-busting, things you'd like to see or not see? Thank you.

Sorry, this is the same writer anon that has been asking for advice for the past 5 parts, I really appreciate everyone's help so far, you guys are the nicest, sob.

Well, uh, what in particular do you need? Personality? I'd say. Um. Getter more chill that he used to be. Still nitpicky over small details (though he did got over the yellow margarine thing). To people he likes, friendly in a, a raucous, gregarious sort of way? Less formal in his speech than France, tutoies more than vousvoies. Less raring after sovereignty than he used to be, though some of the politicians pitched fits after France's boss straight-out told them he thought it was a stupid idea. Getting more multicultural, though for the most part he's super, super into being super, super Quebecois. More of a tendency to like someone if they're francophone. No bowties, like, ever. Uses "pis" a lot for "and" or "also". (I heard a guy today go "ehhh, oui pis non", it was kinda cute!) Wiki has a good list of slang, that should help.

OH AND

all the stereotypes you need!

I kind of miss the old place now, tabernacle. :U

QUEBEC: WE KNOW HOCKEY

Aw, you used to live in Quebec? Well, I hope that if you miss it enough, you find a way to come back for a bit. ♥

Unfortunately my family failed at hockey. We were figure skating geeks though. XDDD

Yep, grew up there. I'll probably end up back there at some point, haha. (: Good ol' hometown of Montreal and all.

I don't really like any sports, so. Failquebecois, maybe, but I'm an ~immigrant~ so it doesn't matter anyway.

Oh, hey, Montreal? I live there! Woo metropolis.

Haha, immigrant here too! Learned English when I got to Canada and then French. \o/

Awesome. Both my parents went to McGill so we lived right near the campus. :DD

Thank you, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. I don't know if my characterization would be quite that awesome, but I'll do my best!

Quebec is cranky, chain smokes, drinks cheap/dirty beer but likes to think that speaking french somehow makes him classy lol Oh and he likes to party. With the ladies.

Older-acting than Average!Canada, less sexually inhibited, drinks a big cup of Haterade before he gets out of bed in the morning, can jack so much fucking lumber your head will spin, has simultaneously much better and much worse taste in clothes, smokes like a chimney, eats poutine-covered tourtière for breakfast, can drink forever... Hates Rest of!Canada, America, England, France. No stranger to the kink and fetish scene.

Moar Haterade.

Plays mean fucking hockey. Is proud of that fact (and may be missing a tooth or two.) Speaks horrible French with bizarrely-interspersed English, "Donne-moi un 'ot-dog, pis du poutine, la.".

Oh, and TABARNAK.

Re: Canadanons, please help?

(Anonymous) 2009-05-20 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
You know, I never got these swears spelled out, so I always thought it was tabarnaque and esti because I can't spell. Also one of my teachers in fifth grade used to use tabarnouche as a milder version(?!).

Re: Canadanons, please help?

(Anonymous) 2009-05-20 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, tabarnouche, batarnak, I've heard a few of those. :P

I am an Anglo-shit Ontario pigdog, btw, hahaha

(oh, and of course he pronounces "poutine" properly--not "poo-teen", but "p'tzin")

Re: Canadanons, please help?

(Anonymous) 2009-05-20 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
Batarnak lol I have not heard that one.

Ffff I kind of wish I'd gotten around Ontario more. Mostly we swarmed Ottawa for the tulip fest.

(who the heck pronounces it poo-teen anyway. honestly. ;D)

Hahahaha, I've actually been to Toronto as well. CN Tower's pretty fun. \o/ But yeah, other than that I know jack about Ontario. Go figure, I've lived in Manitoba, too. So I've neighbored your place twice and still fail. XD

OP thanks you, this is very very helpful. Now I'm not sure I could write someone as bad-ass as Quebec!Canada, but... I'll do my best.

He--

He is chillaxed in his own way, but can get pretty damn defensive if you touch on the issue of culture/language.
Also, hockey, arts, and poutine.
France, well idk. I guess at the same time france is his last resort for cultural products, but yeah, abandonment issues, the french immigrants complaining a lot, etc. don't make him his favourite person. His french is more nasal than francis'. A ladies' man. A party guy. Er, that's all i have. Then again speaking as an immigrant that had been kind isolated into a french clique all my perception are probably erroneous.
