Part 11 comes after Part 10
Part 10 is over! Part 11 is here. If you haven't checked the challenge entry, the challenge has been extended until Part 11 maxes. Hopefully that is enough time for people who are busy with finals and such to find time to enter, if they'd like to!
Should I mention that the number 11 scares me? I really don't like that number. Like how Natalie Portman hated the number 5 (or 6?) in Where the Heart Is. But a higher number. Well, anyway.
Da Rules:
*No image bombing.
Da Notes:
*If you're feeling down, make sure to get help, and refer to links on previous parts if you need them.
*If you don't know how to post images while anon, refer to this comment. Make sure to follow the directions on that comment as well!
And also:
*Posting on this meme, logged in or not, is opening you up and taking the risk for positive and negative comments. If you can't handle that response to your logged in comments, I'd suggest posting anon and not drawing attention to yourself.
*What you say is what you say, so please make sure you want to say it. Except for special cases (that hopefully will not come up) I won't be deleting or screening comments.

language raaant
(Anonymous) 2009-05-22 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)Hetalia fandom is pretty good about it, but as someone who's not a native speaker everytime I see someone on LJ go "lol learn to write, noob" or some other really down-putting comment when it comes to some minor (or maybe it's just minor in my eye) grammatical error, I get so sad.
The person might have actually tried hard to spell things correctly, but english isn't the most easy language D: I don't mind it if like with above someone points it out politely. But usually the english-speakers are so damn snotty about it. I just want to go "well, you try to write in german/french/italian/spanish whatever and not make a single mistake". I know some are fluent in a second language, but I doubt all those english grammar nazi's who put everyone else down is.
Or maybe I'm overreacting?
Re: language raaant
Though I stand for politeness in making these critiques, I'm all for making them nonetheless. I'm not a native English speaker, and if people hadn't gone "huh, wait, what...?" at my "best efforts" I wouldn't be capable of communicating, period.
"well, you try to write in german/french/italian/spanish whatever and not make a single mistake"
Because you're not supposed to expect that. See, on an English community, you're expected to try to talk in a passable level of ENGLISH if you want to communicate, at least if you want to integrate. Mistakes happen, this is not uncommon, but there's a way of telling between someone who is trying and someone who isn't. Besides that, one's other language skills are irrelevant at the time. Now, if the person this was directed to were to go to a Spanish, German, French or Italian community, and would fail at the language dominating the arena... ahh, now THERE you would have something of a moral authority to poke them a bit.

(Anonymous) 2009-05-22 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)Sure write a little note "Oh you missed this, it's actually supposed to be..." is very appreciated but so much more often it's "It's TOO not TO you idiot, learn the difference before you type anything!". But maybe I've just had bad luck. At least I'd like to think people can understand what I say.
If all English fandoms were just for those who perfectly mastered the english part of the net would grow less interesting I think.

(Anonymous) 2009-05-22 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)It would be nice to work up a system in which kink meme writers could have a beta. Requests sometimes interest me, but as I'm afraid to butcher English, I generally don't get the courage to fill them...

Also, I'd like to ask you: which do you think is the easiest language, then?
Re: language raaant
(Anonymous) 2009-05-22 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)And even talking about second languages it would be a matter to what is closer to your native language. I actually has far, far more problem with pronouncing English than spelling it, to be honest >.>

It's Grammar Nazis. Why the fuck is the apostrophe there?
Gtfo, learn to write.
Re: language raaant
(Anonymous) 2009-05-22 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)And ugh I should learn that English writes words like that separately, that's really something I don't get why I keep doing.
But really nazi!anon, I really don't get how to apostrophe in English. Does anyone know what rules applies?

But yeah, to actually answer your rant, the whole rudeness over a tiny mistake or two is kind of stupid, because I've seen native English speakers who can barely write in English, lol.
