Part 11 comes after Part 10

Part 10 is over! Part 11 is here. If you haven't checked the challenge entry, the challenge has been extended until Part 11 maxes. Hopefully that is enough time for people who are busy with finals and such to find time to enter, if they'd like to!

Should I mention that the number 11 scares me? I really don't like that number. Like how Natalie Portman hated the number 5 (or 6?) in Where the Heart Is. But a higher number. Well, anyway.

Words that make you RAGE

(Anonymous) 2009-05-25 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
For some reason, I have an irrational hatred for the word "addicting". I can't stand it.

IT'S ADDICTIVE, OKAY?

Only my American friends insist on saying it all the time. However, I always stop myself from saying anything. It isn't as if it's an offensive word, so I can't claim I'm offended by it and I can't just tell people what they can and can't say. It still annoys me though, damn it!

Any words you have a distinct hatred for, anon?

Not so much the word itself, but for some reason I really hate saying the word "stomach".
And "hungry".
I see a pattern.

Huh, I have that problem with "stomach" too.

I don't like the word "stomach" either. I usually say "gut" instead.

Quirky. Zany and kooky, to a lesser extent. Not bad words, but oh, they are abused. They are to descriptive text what Papyrus is to typography.

Also I am not entirely comfortable with the increasing amounts of Internet words with "-fag" appended to the end (e.g., namefag, drawfag), but there is no real replacement for "namefag" I can think of that isn't clunky in a sentence, and it's obviously not meant with any degree of ill-feeling, so maybe I should just ignore it? But -- I don't know that I can? Or should?

Aagh. Less a RAGE and more of a DISCOMFORT.

I say addicting all the time. I'm always like, "omg that is so addicting."

I hate the word "like" but I say it like... all the time.

Please stop it, I beg of you.

If not in all conversation all together then at least in the anon meme.

Technically, using the word "addicting" isn't wrong when you're using it as a verb. But if you want it to be a simple adjective to describe the thing you're addicted to, yeah, it actually has to be "addictive".

EVERY FUCKING KID IN MY ENGLISH LECTURES USES THIS WORD LIKE IT'S THEIR WORD-OF-THE-DAY OR SOMETHING, ONLY THAT THEY USE IT EVERY FUCKING DAY. Jesus Christ, people. Repeating the same word really doesn't make you sound that smart when you do your *~*~literary analysis~*~*.

And also, the misuse of the 'ironic' makes me see red.

It sounds like a disease

I hate mound, snatch, pussy unless it's in dialogue (I just can't take it serious when it's like "he rubbed her pussy") and um... I hate "member" for dicks.

"Congratulations," or worse, "congrats." It sucks, because I'm in an application-based RP and I want to congratulate people when they get in. I just hate the word!

Also, "moist" when it's used to describe food, "fluids" when used instead of "drinks," "purchased" instead of "bought" (the first two are gross, the last one's pretentious as hell).

Irregardless.

Which is NOT A GODDAMN WORD. Even if Firefox seems to think it is. The "Ir-" prefix serves no purpose! Yes I am that goddamn pedantic, shush.

Re: Words that make you RAGE

(Anonymous) 2009-05-25 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
No you're not being pedantic. 'Irregardless' is one of the BLATANTLY INCORRECT words that make me RAGE so much. I immediately look down on anyone who uses it, no matter who he/she is.
