part 333 wild ponies running free across the plain
Hi meme! How was your week? Mine was interesting. I just made pad thai noodles (this wasn't the interesting part) but the noodles came out too rubbery/chewy and I am disappointed. I'm also on an Izumi Yukimura kick today! Are you on any particular music kicks? (Also, man I wish you could embed videos on Dreamwidth! A gal can dream, I guess.)

I always think the Gil isn't really the best person to own pets?
Like from the beginning, his relationship from animals has been "don't get attached" and he was raised to view them as either 1. food or 2. workers or 3. Cute things to pet and then move on with your day. But otherwise he doesn't really have an affinity with animals like Germany has always had. I think instead, he's probably terrible and his attention span only lasts for how long that animal is entertaining and cute. He's content to pet a stray cat and leave it to its life.
In my hc on a bad day he can get annoyed by all the pets Germany has. But YEAH Gilbird? I think since childhood birds have been attracted to Prussia, kinda like how Greece has all those damn cats. Gilbert always had a bird following him. When he was younger crows would probably follow him because y'know teutonic knights, bringer of death, bringer of a human meal. But he never noticed?? Just all background noise.
He's a million miles a minute, a bird isn't relevant to what's going on, so not worthy of his attention. I don't think Gilbird is a single bird that he keeps. If it is, Gilbert can't tell. But after his brother pointed out the bird to him, he felt really flattered that this living fluffy thing decided to pick him as a friend.
I think at first he would've kept the bird as like "TOO COOL PHOTO ACCESSORY!!" to melt hearts, but the more he spent time with the bird, the more it touched the deepest loneliness in his stupid little heart, and he started to give it a rare special attention that he's never really given anything besides himself and his little brother.
Gilbird he would tell you is his #1 friend, and not his pet! He doesn't really keep him, it's a "come and go" kinda thing! I guess for activities, I think he'd be dead set on trying to teach the bird to whistle certain old timey marching songs, but besides that it's a lot of dress up games, photo taking, and laying around rubbing his feathery belly.

He doesn't stick out much among his brothers because he didn't really have any land to claim, which gave him the biggest complex. The reason why he's so loud and bad is because he's so afraid of fading into the background. He's so ambitious because of all the brothers, he inherited the least.
Germania raised him and HRE together because he had a feeling that teuton wouldn't survive without close contact to the center of the brothers. HRE was the glue who held it all together and is probably the only one who can really keep teuton in line next to like other obvious authority.
Hungary was his best friend, but Poland? Poland was almost hsi sibling. He took care of Poland like Poland was his little brother, they were actually pretty damn close so that makes him trying to kill him later on...just an even more blatantly sad moment for me. Because he started off wanting to be included in the brotherly shit, and the one "brother" he earns entirely, he betrays, and tries to run a sword through. Which he does again for Brandenburg, and nearly for germany, since his men were the ones who tried to assassinate hitler. May have been in good intentions, but still. History of betraying his bros yo.
Prussia secretly remembers this as the happiest/most content he ever was next to his time as kingdom/raising Germany because it was the first time in his life he felt like he had a family. Or the closest he felt to having one. Before y'know, he gave poland the biggest middle finger and married brandenburg...
It wasn't ideal, but it set in his mind what he wanted. I think his time in the commonwealth were really what gives us family!Prussia later on. If you got him drunk enough, Erste would admit he considers hungary, poland, lithuania and ukraine/belarus more his siblings than the actual other german states.
His relationship with Saxony is probably harder and more complicated than his one with Bavaria which was bad from the start.
As Brandenburg-Prussia, He got caught up in Brandenburg->Saxony fighting. Whcih.... was fucking hard for him because Saxony used to be like his best friend in the teutonic era. They were direct neighbors and shared bosses and shit and lots of time and had seen a lot of the hardest shit together.
But towards the end, shit just got bitter because their bosses turned on each other, and Prussia cried a lot in private over it. He's probably closest to Brandenburg because they saved eachother. Brandenburg was barren land and Prussia was dependent on the Poland-Lithuanian commonwealth for survival. He was always the german brother who was scared most of disappearing like you wouldn't believe. Imagine being 13-16 and terrified every moment you could die at any moment.
Sometimes he gets really misty-eyed because he just wants things to go back to being okay?? between him and his brothers. He tried to force it through unification, but it backfired on him so bad. Today, things are okay but the paranoid lonely side of Prussia never really feels quite at ease with his extended family of siblings. Culture clash isn't easy sometimes.
He really doesn't ahve any good family relationships with anyone thinking on it. Besides maybe Germany but even that has it bad moments.
