part 335 summer nights (tell me more tell me more)

Like did he have a car? Dodo--dodo--dodo... yeah! How is your July going so far, meme? Good? Bad? Okay? Scrumtrulescent? ... Question mark? This is a very rambling post today, I'm sorry, I'm in a tired rush. A tired tired summer rush. Which, in my professional opinion, is the most annoying kind of rush. I prefer a crisp winter rush! But oh well.

Enjoy part 335!

Just got back from taking a walk after lunch, I'm still half-asleep because tonight I woke up at 3:35 because of this:

Well. This is a very seismic area (we feel all the quakes across Italy) but I usually just turn the other side and go back to sleep, if it's even strong enough to wake me up. This one instead woke me up and made me get off the bed and out of the house, so decently strong. Some stuff fell from the shelves.

There was a lot of people in the streets but the atmosphere was pretty chill. No damages to people or buildings, just some scares, especially when we were all going back to sleep at 5:00 and another 4.0 shake came. At that point everybody just got out the house and walked to the beach to watch the dawn and have breakfast. There isn't a high tsunami risk on the Adriatic even for sea quakes afaik so the beach is pretty safe.

It's highly likely we will keep on dancing for some months or so at this point so everybody is a bit on edge, and it's also very bad for tourism, but like I said we're rather used to it so most people have already gone back to business as usual. I packed a small bag to grab quickly in case authorities find this building faulty/another shake comes but that is all the changes I've done to my routine.

Yeah, I know those can get pretty bad there, glad to hear people are safe and there's no damage. Hopefully the aftershocks won't be too disruptive... Though that sounds like a really nice way to spend the morning, beaches and breakfast. Are there a lot of old buildings that aren't earthquake safe?

Luckily we're, in theory, better prepared than people in other areas, so modern buildings that follow anti-seismic laws are relatively safe and even older historical ones are often built and restored well - the true risks come with reckless builders who didn't use good materials to save money. This is the reason behind, for example, a lot of the deaths in L'Aquila's earthquakes. But so far so good.

Yes, like I said the atmosphere was pretty chill, we're sort of used to the idea of the earth shaking every once in a while. There were a lot of kids taking pictures of the dawn on the sea and people just taking walks on their bikes and even some kids taking a bath, and the bars were full.

It was amazing! Not much happened at the Stanley Hotel or the Crescent Hotel, though at the former something kept touching my legs in bed and the latter was pretty creepy and had a morgue. I think a little girl ghost poked me at the Crescent though.

The Waverly Hills Sanatorium was crazy cool and omg I want to go back and spend the night there! I was shadow people on the fourth floor and one of them burned/scratched my friend's neck. She's okay now.

And finally at the West Virginia Penitentiary, the tour allowed us to wander around by ourselves and there was something following us around almost the entire time. We got it to answer questions on my EMF reader, that was amazing and awesome.

Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to visit the Bell Witch Cave cause we got caught up at the Parthenon and taking cosplay photos, oops.

Re: +1

[personal profile] wiccat 2013-07-21 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really. We were in a large group for the majority of the time, and I think that kind of high energy level keeps any spirits at bay. When my friend was scratched was when a handful of us got to go down this corridor alone to lure out shadow people. I got to go first and I was completely enveloped in black to the point where I couldn't see the group once I was down the corridor and they couldn't see me. Another girl who went looked like she had this black thing following behind her. And of course my friend got scratched, but we put ice on it and it's better.

Souvenirs
Actually we went to this little second hand shop and I bought some jewelry and a scarf for around $3 but I've been wanting to buy a few little souvenirs for folks

Also yes the vending machine downstairs have these yummy shortbread cookies but there's some with like chocolate on the bottom and I've been wanting those but effort!
I'd have to actually go to the store and cross the street and deal with the cashiers who keep asking if we have exact change
