though I will probably try and buy the volumes in Italian because I really like it and also I think the scanlations aren't the best? the English is sometimes a bit awkward at least

I know, I know, I gave in and read the manga in the end because it's so hard to avoid spoilers (you might want to avoid my posts on this page btw)

the differences with the anime are minimal (though I like the way the storytelling in the manga is structured a bit more, and also the writing of certain parts seems a bit subtler in the manga) so you can just jump ahead to the parts that weren't covered in the anime

on the other hand, the drawing style is VERY different from the anime, a bit rougher and sometimes even downright bad (you must have seen the WHAT IS IT EREN image) and more gory. I like it, it kind of adds to the horror feel for me, but it's not to everybody's taste.

yes we're spoiled, I've been on another anon meme for another fandom and it was much less chillax than this one ;3;

Hahaha, the WHAT IS IT EREN image cracks me up every time.
But huh, the style on the anime is so cool, I'm a little puzzled to hear if that style didn't come from the manga?

The style of the anime is much more polished. It's very pretty and shiny, in comparison the manga is darker and rougher and much less polished and while it gets better as time goes on in the first chapters especially there are some obvious proportion mistakes (like, on humans, not on the titans).

It's also just more gory in parts - like for example in the anime when Armin finds Hannah trying to relive Franz it's sort of left implied why he was so sure he was dead, while in manga we get a full image of Franz's mutilated corpse.

The character design in the anime is pretty consistent with the manga though and one thing the mangaka can do is facial expressions, so for example Eren's stare has that same INTENSE quality and Jean still looks like a dick and Annie still has the nose. They also kept a lot of key scenes almost identical in composition and setting, so you'll recognize a lot of stuff, and the dialog, with the exception of a couple things here and there, is almost identical.

I dunno, like I said, I like it, but it's not for everybody and I totally understand those who say they don't like it. I also can see why they changed it in the anime, the rawness wouldn't make for very smooth and cool animation - though the polished feel kind of takes away from the horror setting for me, some scenes definitely look cooler animated, like the run of the Female Titan (I kept on thinking while I was reading that part that I couldn't wait to see it animated).

Oh, and it was the Sherlock meme! Man, that fandom can get intense.

All right, I'll consider myself warned about art shift. But I don't mind watching art shift or gore, so I think I'll be all right!

...Yeah, Sherlock fandom's pretty scary sometimes. Personally, I'll get my feet wet but that's about it.
