dishonor on your family dishonor on your cow

no but seriously the dub is so popular on tumblr and I still have never watched it except the one episode nor am I interested to

I don't really care much about the anime either, I just want more Himaruya

so yeah

tumblr fandom has a tendency to do this, like, to ignore canon* at times to jump straight into their AUs and just go with those and even whine when the canon diverges from whatever headcanon is fashionable at the time

like the huge fuss that was kicked in the snk fandom over Hange's gender

*the dubs are so different from the original in the type of humor that I'm hesitant in considering them canon

Oh the dub is def. not canon

But unfortunately, some do consider lines from the dub canon. I've seen it come up on TV Tropes. Which, also, gives the hatedom the wrong idea of what Hetalia is.

I enjoy the dub as something different from Hetalia, but I wish it didn't exist.

I love some of the voices in the dub (Romano, France, America, Austria...) and I wish SO MUCH that they had done a faithful translation instead of rewriting tons and adding Holocaust jokes into it.

Sorry if I disappear sometimes, I suddenly have stuff to do sometimes.

Yes, I tend to agree - it's a completely different thing, and while I'm not going to berate people for liking it (different strokes etc.) I wish people didn't assume it was what canon Hetalia is like.

I wouldn't have minded the voices and even the accents (I...actually find Romano's kind of cute, in this 'oh so this is how we sound like to Americans, lol' way) and a bit of localization for the more obscure/weird jokes might have worked, but they went with a rewrite that also completely changed the tone for me from cutesy/whimsical/nonsense to "edgy" humor that doesn't really strike a note for me.

(It's not even that I don't like edgy humor in general, I do love black humor - but I tend to have high requirements for it. And now I sort of want to go in an off topic rant about different kinds of humor and perspective and translate what this Italian comedian said about it but I think I'll pass)
