Yes, I was.

[He's not sure what to tell Australia about it, though. It wasn't as glamorous as it sounds.]

It was a lot of fighting. I traveled around my borders frequently to keep invaders out, and then when that stopped working as well I teamed up with a friend to defend both our lands better.

Do that too! 'part from invaders, ain't got any of those. Like explorin' cause there's lots I ain't see yet. Like the other coast!

Nice to have a friend like that though. Gotta trust someone a lot to team up with 'em like that. 'specially when ya a nation.

[Continues to eat his sandwich.]

[But somehow that feels like lying, so he blushes and revises his statement.]

We were married, actually.

[Sounds a little confused there. Isn't that something only humans do?]

Yes? We formed an alliance first and then gradually became a Commonwealth after several more agreements.

[...It sounds almost romantic when he puts it like that. Huh.]

I doubt you'll need to get married, though.

Don't want to get married. Girls are borin'. Unless they like fightin'! Met one who brawled with a shark once!

[Actually it was Russia but he's confused that story with another one.]

[Which is not an answer but it's close enough to one that he won't seem like he's avoiding the question.]

You might change your mind someday.

[Not that they can really get married just because they want to, but there's no need to tell him that now.]

So you were his wife? Or were you both husbands? Can't imagine marrying my best friend.

[That might be because he's a koala. Pauses, then shakes his head at that statement.]

Nah. Rather go find spiders or somethin'.

We were both husbands. It actually worked pretty well for a while.

[Not that he'd tell Poland that nowadays.]

[When Australia mentions spiders he chuckles, not all that surprised. Looks like he hasn't changed since then.]

And ya were happy?

[Finished off his sandwich now, and when he hears Lithuania laugh, he grins in excitement and tugs at his hands.]

Ya like spiders? I like spiders! And crocs! And kangaroos, and emus, and...

[Lists an entire zoo worth of animals that he likes excitedly.]

[He laughs again when Australia starts listing animals.]

[WAIT A MINUTE wasn't he not going to tell the kid he knew the older one? Will that create some kind of time paradox or something?!]

...and that's why ya shouldn't try to lift a bees' nest.

[Stops to breath and then looks at Lithuania's face. He doesn't look so good. Pats his face to see if that makes him feel better.]

No, I'm fine. Thanks for the advice.

[Did he not even notice?! That's probably okay then, right?]

[Looks at Lithuania closely, clearly not buying it.]

Don't gamble with seamen.

[Nods sagely before getting off his chair and stretching. The whisk drops out this time.]

[When he hears the whisk drop he just sighs. And picks it up. And puts it back where it goes.]

Don't steal things and try to hide them in your clothes.

[Pouts as he loses the last of his haul. He's had more successful attempts at theft.]

[Next time he'll bring a swagbag.]

[Good enough for him. He pats Australia's head and stands up as well, going to clean up the plate.]

It's better to get things the honest way.

[Looks up at Lithuania as his head's patted, expression clearly saying "really?" as he raises an eyebrow. It doesn't stop him from following Lithuania over to the sink however.]

What if ya really want something, but ain't clear if ya'll get it if ya honest. What then?

[Australia is a cute kid, okay. What's wrong with head pats? And he's not sure if he's allowed to hug him or anything.]

Then you have to work for it.

[He was being sceptical of what he was saying, the head pat is fine. Hugs are fine but expect demands for a piggy back ride if he does that.]

But what if it fails? Then what? Ain't it better to be dishonest then?

[Australia doesn't look too heavy, so he can have all the piggy back rides he wants. ...Within reason, of course.]

Then you try again a different way. Dishonesty always comes back to you in unpleasant ways.

[Although that may be because he's a terrible liar.]

[Is "constantly" within reason? He knows he's starting to get too old for it so he's taking advantage while he can.]

Hmmm.

[Not convinced even though he's not much of a better liar than Lithuania is.]

What if it doesn't though? Lots of folk get away with it.

[If he knew he'd think that was adorable. As of right now "constantly" wasn't his plan.]

And a lot of people get caught and get in a lot of trouble for it.

[In fact that's the basis for his existence. Looks around even though there's nobody else about before gesturing for Lithuania to crouch down.]
