[when she gets back, he pauses to take a drink. Then, still looking at the slowly recovering line, pushes his plate slightly towards her]

At least the buffet table didn't topple over.

[Which means, yeah, he was smiling earlier for a reason. Even if it's a stupid one.]

I don't normally consider playing horrible tricks on others as a reason to smile.

One of the times I feel like being nice, and then you call me mean. Sheesh.

To be honest, to have you sitting here with me is kind enough.

All of a sudden, offering your food and I'm not sure how to interpret that.

Is it suddenly a crime for me to be sitting on the same table with you now?

It feels more normal when we're fighting or disagreeing on something while sitting on the same table, rather than just eating and discussing in a civil manner.

...the young man who is more interested in disagreements than taking care of his younger brother.

Perhaps instead of causing problems with others, you should leave some food for him and give him a proper meal.

Knowing that kid, he's already stuffed himself full staying by the buffet table. And his cute charm would guarantee at least a couple of people feeding him.

One would think that the older sibling would be the one feeding the younger one as opposed to letting strangers fill that role.

[Moves the glass of juice to her lips and then stops.]

And knowing him, he is probably filled with sweets as opposed to anything substantial. So long as the older sibling has his fun, he doesn't care about anything else.

The big brother's just trying not to be smothering and restrictive to the little kid unlike certain other siblings. Helping and teaching him to be independent, that is. It's what the little kid wants anyways.

And perhaps you've never met or seen that younger sibling, who's way more mature and smart than you think he is.
