part 343 pieces of discounted Halloween candy

stock up while it's on sale! Anyway: I. can't. believe. it. I really can't. I mean, I do believe it. So I guess I can believe it. But STILL. I've been saying all month that we'd get doodles, if anything, but--AN EVENT. An event! <>A real event. With ghosts! And mysterious happenings! And Hong Kong being a butt! I can't wait to see what happens next!

Enjoy part 343!

this one i really don't get because whether the mystery event organizer creates an 'anon account' or if anons themselves create accounts, it would end with the exact same result?

indeed, you would be more anonymous creating your own account in that no one else could possibly snoop on your ip info as they would be able to when you're sharing an account with anyone

i suppose it could work if organizer created an account for every anon (anonymous1, anonymous2, banananon…) but again there's no point to making the organizer do so instead of participants themselves doing it

Aren't they only using the accounts so they can send someone their "power" or if they're a killer? It's not like they'll need to be logging in 2834938 times

(Anonymous) 2013-11-10 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
it only takes one login for anyone who logs in later to be able to read your IP.

it's against Dreamwidth's TOS to share/trade accounts, tbh

we're pushing it with picspammer

(Anonymous) 2013-11-10 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
it was against LJ's, too

idgi either

if contacting via email's no problem, then just screen anon comments and have every anon come up with a unique email address over at mailinator.com like 130498jeoi or something.

Send the info there, and only the anon who made the email address knows its name and can check its inbox all while remaining completely private.

THIS. this is a really good idea

thank you. i wouldn't have thought of this and this ought to work!

yeah unless people choose names like "anon" or "aphanon" or something

it really has to be unique or anyone can check your inbox

heck anons can go to http://makemeapassword.net/ and use those two words to make a unique name i suppose

calm down

mailinator.com

(Anonymous) 2013-11-10 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
a useful disposable mail site

the info from their site:

"Free. Disposable. Email.

Use any inbox you like. No Sign-up needed.
Inboxes are created when email arrives for them
Make-up an address, give it out, then come here!
Give out a Mailinator address any time you need an email address but don't want to get spammed!"

as long as you make a unique enough address no-one else will be able to figure it out and check your inbox

What if someone figures it out?

they can't if you make one using makemeapassword

I think this is a good idea and was sort of what I was going for. You can even head over to sharklasers.com and get one there. The only potential problem is that these emails are temporary, so there is a tight messaging window.

this is only more extra effort for you but you could set up a post for anons who missed the messaging window

they can reply with their address again and you resend it

to me it sounds easiest for anons to each make a sock puppet account tho

Wouldn't it just be easier to go with what the current plan appears to be? Shared account for those that want to use it, you can use a sock puppet if you want. Rather than a mailinator for all anons with the likelihood that they'll miss a message, which means meme_mystery will have to keep a file of all the messages they send, then create a post in case people miss it, then match up the names to the messages, and resend them, and hope that they're around again in time.

i'm not even participating

tbh if i were organizing this event i'd go the mailinator way or have everyone make a sock puppet account or don't participate and that's it

it's barely any effort, you're still anonymous and you don't have the other risks that a shared account with a publicly available password has

like 99% of this feels like complaining for the sake of complaining imo

It's a good thing you aren't the organizer! :D

ehhh

(Anonymous) 2013-11-10 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
The problem with mailinator is that messages get deleted in a few hours. It would be very easy for someone to miss a message and they'd never get to read it again. An account(s) are more stable.

Re: ehhh

(Anonymous) 2013-11-10 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
is that a new feature?

i used one for a spammy site once and it saved an email for a couple of days before i deleted it myself

Re: ehhh

(Anonymous) 2013-11-10 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Dunno if it's new, but it says on the FAQ.

Re: ehhh

(Anonymous) 2013-11-10 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah

shame they're not more specific about how many hours it lasts
