i didn't dislike any of these, but i guess they fit under either unbelievable or simply uninteresting to me at first:

hk/iceland - some funny rp on the meme + some comic strips made me like it. i still see this as something of a crack ship, but that's fine.

prumano - LOTS of great fanart, great doujin, great fic got me into it. initially was not on board because of lack of canon interaction, but must say the personality clash is fantastic.

england/canada - ngl, at first i saw it as usuk v2 but with less baggage/personality conflict, which was boring to me. in some ways i'm still on the fence about it, but some fic playing up the daddy complex and dysfunctional relationship elements made it actually hot to me.

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if the nations actually existed and it wasn't just a Hetalia thing. Can you imagine the political grandstanding? Would they even be able to allow others to know who they are? Imagine all the assassination attempts only to find they can't be killed, etc. That would be a very difficult life for many reasons.

In reality there's no way they'd be able to be out in the open with everyone knowing who they are.

Even so, other governments would find out and nations would definitely have been captured and tortured by rival countries in hopes that doing physical damage to them affected their country. Humans are too much of assholes to just let that kind of being alone.

The life of a nation personification would be a miserable one indeed. I'd wonder if they'd start to resent being one to the point of trying to flee in order to become an anonymous hermit?

But then again, they'd probably end up with perks in their own home country, if they can take the critics and those who'd scapegoat them for bad times.

they'd have to hide.

i'd think they'd be in trouble even with their own people; the people in power would try to keep control of them. i mean they obviously would not want to harm them (too much, in any case), but they might keep them under lock and key and try to prevent them from knowing what's going on, in a bid to keep power. especially in the case of a revolution, a secession, or other civil unrest. attempt to brainwash them in order to settle that unrest.
