part 347 dimensions of sight and sound

and of mind. Do do do do do do do do do do do.

How was your end-of-December-into-January time, meme? Did you make any New Year's resolutions? Or light a candle in your window in the hopes that Himaruya would update again instead of leaving us behind like an 19th century light house keeper's wife whose husband has gone off to sea? ... Did you?

Enjoy part 347!

Why do art and post it online if you don't want it seen by lots of people? Seems kind of odd and uptight to me.

Did you even read the previous comment or

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I did. Still seems uptight. Eh, cultural disconnect.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone isn't uptight for expecting people to follow the rules of a website.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
FWIW, in Japanese culture it is not the norm to repost other people's art or photographs, especially fanart, either to websites or to use for graphics/edits/icons/etc. on Pixiv, you aren't supposed to repost any pictures (even with credit) without express permission of the artist. So the artists are uploading to a website where the norm is "do not repost this without explicit permission" and are seeing people repost it thousands of times (With reblogs, I mean) without having been asked or sometimes even given direct credit. They might not want the exposure. They might feel annoyed that someone took their art without asking. Etc. So I can understand why many of them choose to delete.

na

Because it's part of their fandom culture? What makes it okay for westerners to go into a Japanese space and piss all over the way they want to do fandom?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It doesn't make it okay I just think it's odd.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
BUT MOOOOOOOM THEY'RE SO ODD AND UPTIGHT FOR EXPECTING ME TO ABIDE BY A WEBSITE'S RULES AND RESPECT OTHER PEOPLE'S DECISIONS NOT TO SHARE THEIR ARTWOOOOOOOORRRRRRK

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
wow you are seriously asspained.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
don't you mean "uptight"? I'm sorry that the pixiv artists you drool over expected you to actually abide by Pixiv's TOS and respect their work. Must be terribly painful for you.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
making assumptions. more asspain.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
typing in all lower case to hide the fact that you're the same anon who says it's odd. retarded.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
sameanon accusations. keep proving the point.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
They're uploading to a website where the TOS states that images are not to be reposted without express permission of the author and are from a culture where reposting images, even with credit, is not the norm,.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
look at it this way

say you post a fic

someone takes that fic and reposts it on tumblr, often, not even giving you credit

this is when you said not to do that, and when it's expected for them to not do that, by the site you posted the fic on

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Not giving credit is an entirely different matter.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
you're ignoring the fact that tons of tumblr users post works from pixiv without credit very often.

even with credit, the site says to not repost works, but tumblr and even the meme does it anyway "because it's the internet lol!"

it's not rocket science, that's just how it is

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Except even with credit, the person reposting is a) violating the TOS of Pixiv. ("Prohibited acts: ... Reprinting of image data from this site without the creator's permission.") and b) violating copyright law (re: Copyright of images "All image data posted on this service are the copyright of the user who created the images.") and c) being rude as shit, because it's accepted in Japan that you do not repost images without express, blatant permission.

It doesn't matter if you (general you) give credit. You shouldn't repost the art without asking first. Not only are you violating Pixiv's TOS and the general culture of the website and Japanese fanart sites, you're violating their copyright. And they could legally report you to Tumblr or whatever other site you're uploading on and potentially get your blog deleted.
