I'm confused as to how country "loneliness" works

Russia is "lonely" yet he's a federation?

England is "lonely" yet he lives with 3 brothers?

Or maybe Russia is just Russia and his federal subjects (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_subjects_of_Russia) don't have personifications?

England's brothers are mentioned, but maybe... he just doesn't like to be with them?

Tbh the only time I've felt lonely was when I was surrounded by people I called friends at the time. Cue the world's tiniest violin for boring stuff that I'm gonna skip. But it's how they treated each other versus how they treated me that made me feel like an outsider, which is the only thing that ever makes me feel lonely.

The same way human loneliness works I'd imagine? Having siblings or close friends/neighbors doesn't mean one can't be lonely.

Sure England has his fellow UK brothers but the UK as a whole tries to distance itself from Europe and it wouldn't be surprising if that translated to England feeling lonely or like he's got no friends, especially since it's been said that he and his brothers don't get on.

Russia's loneliness has been tied to the Soviet Union breaking apart. After all, all the nations part of it, including the satellite states, have been shown as literally living in his house/a "communist compound" (presumably on his estate?) and now they're pretty much all gone. Think of how huge and chaotic that must have been back in the day to now, of course it probably feels lonely.

I dunno I mostly think about Prussia when it comes to this topic (for obvious reasons) but I feel like the nations have been shown to have human emotions as well as politically charged ones? Shit the strip with Davie shows they certainly all have the potential for it until they grow used to their long weird lives anyway. Sometimes they just feel things for no good reason like humans, I imagine.

In addition to what others have said, it's possible to be lonely when surrounded by people if the people you're around aren't the ones that you want to be around.
