Is it that there's nothing written about those characters, period, or that everything that gets written about them is bad? I'm trying to decide which scenario would be more frustrating, but I'm having a hard time.

There isn't much written about them (they're secondary/tertiary characters mostly) and what is written isn't very good. (Formulaic, epithets, etc)
