But the bit I really, really am curious about is the definition of minor.

As that other anon last part pointed out, quite a lot of fandoms are centered primarily around minors. Think of the last ten anime fandoms you've been in. Which of them was composed of mostly adult characters? Which of the major ships had only adult characters?

And as Tumblr is based in the US, adult means over 18, so…

Hell, even the Twilight or Teen Wolf or so on, those characters are technically underage.

And SnK is just chompin' at the bit waiting to dive into this shitstorm, given its recent wank over pairing Eren with Levi (Rivaille? …please tell me his name got confirmed one way or the other by now, at least).

This is where it gets a bit dumb, because for heaven's sake does anyone expect teenagers to only fap over adults? Like, seriously? When I was a teen, I preferred reading and looking at porn about characters who were my age. Hell, twelve years ago I probably would've even considered the guys of Hetalia a bit too old for my taste because they're mostly in their twenties and I wanted to read about high schoolers.

But Vuri, I don't think Tumblr is expecting teens to fap to anything. This is America, where masturbation is demonized by a large segment of the population. They're probably thinking "save the children" or something like that.

Oh, naturally! All those young girls frothing at the mouth over Team Sparkly Vampire surely only wanted his heart, not his body. And maybe his teeth. Just a wee bit of the teeth, but you know, shoulders and up only. All those Beliebers, they only want a hug. All those whatever the One Direction fans are called, they've never thought in the direction of the groin...

I don't think they're worried about teens fapping; I think they're more concerned about being sued or possibly getting into legal trouble for distributing porn to minors. That's why the NC-17 struff got scrubbed from FFN.net back in the day.

And honestly, with fandom becoming higher profile, I think this sort of thing is likely to get worse. There's a lot about fandom that mainstream society is never going to understand.

Plus, there are places where even drawn or written sexually explicit things involving underage characters are legally CP, even if they are entirely fictional. A lot of Australians are very careful about their websurfing, because people have gone to prison for accessing things involving underage characters there.

I think it's more tumblr and yahoo covering their asses, myself.

True, though I intended to say that about society in general, besides Tumblr.

I do wish fandom could stay the way it was around, let's see, 2004-ish? I think that was before the hubbub at LJ about underage characters in fanfic. Fandom was huge enough to have something for everyone, yet low-key enough that no one made a serious effort to "reform" it.

Frankly, I think fandom and all its porn are a good thing for young people. For me, growing up, fandom was an excellent safe playground to explore and experiment with all sorts of sexual fantasies and vent those hormonal impulses without actually putting myself out there (and potentially in harm's way).

There've been similar issues in America, too, with some guy getting charged for pedophilia when he possessed only drawn porn.

…and then there's also ever-uptight China, my motherland, where pornography itself is technically illegal (though people do get around it). /sigh
