tbh it goes even further than that

like i am really, really fussy about bathing every day irl, and i insist on a shower or at least some sort of light cleaning before sex

but i also really like the fashions of the past

but it bothers me that people didn't bathe as often then. so even besides pirates, even when it's the cast of les mis or some regency romance or the three musketeers

i still have to steel myself to pretend they all are magically as clean as i would like them to be
