I hope he returns from the sea soon, with stories of adventure and sea monsters and the life outside the island. Ah, Himaruya. Safe journeys. Safe... journeys.

At least China was able to cover up some of the fucked up things that went on until after the Olympics

Russia

it's really sad considering all the time and money that they had for preparation

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
I'll just hope nothing bad happens.

Though according to most American media over the last few months, the entire damn world is going to end during the Sochi Olympics. We really need to work on our objective journalism in this country.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
our journalism is practically a form of entertainment. it wants to say whatever it thinks its audience would want to hear.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
instead of saying what the audience needs to hear

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
Haha we've had it out for this Olympics from the get go. Even if it was the most perfect, safe Olympics ever, American media would be rooting around for something wrong with it.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Turns out they wouldn't have had to put any effort in at all.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Olympic_Games_host_cities

the only times the games were cancelled was because of world wars

i doubt they'll be cancelled or moved from russia, but the conditions...

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
Could they really move it at THIS POINT?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
you never know, anon

it's the modern day

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe not move it, but cancel it, sure. But I doubt they will. China was a shitstorm too and they didn't do jack about that.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
Every single argument I've heard from both China's olympics and Sochi's just comes down to this: Just let rich western countries host the Olympics from now on if you want everything to turn out perfectly with low drama.

They won't cancel it unless what we all hope doesn't happen, happens.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
>Just let rich western countries host the Olympics from now on if you want everything to turn out perfectly with low drama

Ew @ the implications of western countries being "safer" yeeeeeeeeah sure

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
Not my view on it. Just seems to be what underlies every criticism I've ever heard from people I know.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
I know it's not your comment. I'm just ew at that bit

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
But... western countries typically /are/ safer.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
If letting rich countries host it will keep both the competitors and spectators as safe as possible, then I don't see a problem with that. The only argument I've seen for letting less fortunate countries host it is "maybe it will help them get their shit together!" Except no, no it doesn't. Bringing the Olympics to a city that can't handle it usually just fucks up that city and the people living in it for a really long time. Hell, even London fucked up on that front, with what happened to the poor who were living in that area.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-06 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
ohhhhh I'm so worried I want things to go well
