I kind of like the dissonance, to be honest. But he's too "pretty." So is everyone.

...+1 hetalia russia's the opposite of my stereotype of russia in many ways. but, that's true to some degree for many of the characters.

like he's smiley and passive-aggressive, while typically the russian stereotype is scowling and aggressive-aggressive, or at least easily angered and passionate.

With how Russians culturally perceive unwarranted smiles, I was thinking this may have been sort of the point. Russia can manipulate other countries, but to his own people, he's trouble at first sight.

Alternatively, it is said that he is shy and aloof around people he doesn't consider his friends, yet he considers everyone his friend. So he thinks it's appropriate to smile around his "friends", even if he's faking it.
