part 349 heart shaped chocolates

Hi meme! Happy Valentine's day! I hope you have a sweet one. (Get it? Sweet? Because... chocolates and candies. Yeahhh.) Sadly, I don't think a candle in the window for Himaruya has led him home--yet. It's all very romantically tragic. Or tragically romantic. I don't know.

Enjoy part 349!

It's too bad the overhyped Frozen will steal the Oscar from The Wind Rises

I haven't seen it, but from what I've heard about it, I wouldn't expect it to win even if it weren't up against Frozen. I heard it's really slow, long, hard to understand for Western audiences, and doesn't have any other those fantasy elements that Miyazaki is so well known for.

Also it caused controversy even in Japan.

Frozen's crazy fandom is making me dislike it :(

I don't think The Wind Rises is his best film but I'd rather it win as a sort of lifetime recognition thing...

The problem with that idea is that it could mean films which deserve an Oscar over it don't win, just because the director (or if we apply it to together categories, actor, actress, etc) is at the end of their career.

But would Miyazaki even care? Aren't the Oscars largely an American thing?

I dont even think he showed up when Spirited Away won its Oscars

he doesn't even live in the country, so

agreed that frozen's overhyped

i like the movie, but yeah, after watching it a second time, it's probably going to sit more in the middle range of my personal disney movie ranking rather than at the top.
