part 353 whalers on the moon

We've been here over a year now! I can hardly believe it! Dreamwidth's been pretty good, I'd say, with almost no downtime to speak of and all that! Anyway... how is your spring going? Or I guess it's almost summer, isn't it? Hopefully it's been well! I've been catching up on work and new movies, all very exciting stuff, I'm sure.

Enjoy part 353!

All of them.

I don't like human names in general.

Lili for Liechtenstein. I don't normally mind the "unimaginative" names like Belle or Michelle, but Lili just doesn't work for me.

Lukas Bondevik.

Lukas isn't a Norwegian name (it isn't even Scandinavian), and it wasn't used much in Norway until very recently, so I feel it's a poor choice for a first name.

Bondevik -- I feel that using the surname of a recent prime minister (and still active politician IIRC) isn't a very good choice for the personification of the country. (And then there is the issue of the particulars of that individual's party/politics...)

"Bella" for Belgium and "Lili" for Liechtenstein. It feels way too lazy for me.

Same with nyo!characters' names being feminized/masculinized versions of their "canon" names. If I never see one more "Feliciana" or "Lovina" it'll be too soon.

Generally I have no love for human names that sound too much like the country name, except for France no one else is named that way and it's just lazy imho. However, if it's for a character who doesn't have a canon human name ESPECIALLY IN A HUMAN AU WHERE THEIR NATION NAME IS NEVER BROUGHT UP, it's preferable to a random name I would have no reason to identify with that character. (Except Mathias for Denmark, I remember that one easily for some reason).

Re: Nyotalia, if Himaruya didn't give the character a name, (or he gave them a few choices and you can't decide which one to use/hate them all)there's pretty much nothing worse or more lazy than attempting to genderbend the name. I hate Louise for femGermany so much. In general unless it's really awful (like Daisy for Italy bleh) I prefer Pixiv names for Nyotalia over the ones I've seen in Wfen if we're not using Himaruya's suggestions. Especially Lieselotte for Austria, oh my god Annaliese isn't even that bad but god damn Lieselotte is wonderful.

That being said I still hate Maria for femPrussia so much. So so so so so much. I'm glad Jfen has basically abandoned ship and uses Himaruya's suggestion of Julchen. You do not name one of the world's first protestant states after the most important female saint in all of catholicism.

Final thought: dear fanfic writers writing baby fic where Prussia has a kid either through adoption, magical yaoi buttbirth, or (temporary) genderbending, if that kid is a boy do not name it Fritz. Do not. And in the incredibly rare event that baby is a girl, do not name it Louise. And for the love of all that's holy do not name the kid Friedrich Louise Wilhelm von Bismark Beilschmidt. Please.

Pretty much never. Maybe one or two exceptions, but in general - no.
