part 353 whalers on the moon

We've been here over a year now! I can hardly believe it! Dreamwidth's been pretty good, I'd say, with almost no downtime to speak of and all that! Anyway... how is your spring going? Or I guess it's almost summer, isn't it? Hopefully it's been well! I've been catching up on work and new movies, all very exciting stuff, I'm sure.

Enjoy part 353!

At this point, I'd be happy if people were writing historical fic at all. There's so little of it compared to earlier years.

I used to be the type of person to write fic where the nation would somehow magically be present for just about EVERY major event and would be familiar with so many important historical figures

but now I would rather weave the nation into history more plausibly, which doesn't always mean being "in" with historical figures or being there for major events

I don't mind historical figures being central to the fic, but not at the expense of the nations and only if they aren't woobified.

NO WOOBIFYING. NO. It's bad enough in historical fiction! With Hetalia's it's even worse. So many historical figures basically become 'Mary Sues'!

Duck, hand, arm, shark, pub and pub: how many body parts in the list?

I tried to count everything but the duck and nothing felt strange until after the second pub

Only interested if it's primarily about nations interacting with other nations.

Way too many Gary Stu/Mary Sue/woobie fanfics put me off them (mostly looking at you, Fritz, but there are plenty of other candidates) which are basically like the author loves a certain historical figure and wants to validate them by having the very personification of the nation coo over them or be in love with them or bawwww over their fate. And somehow this combination always leaves a sour note to me, regardless of whether I admire that particular historical figure or not. It's just so... cheesy. Or hell, maybe I'm too picky.

Then again, I almost always steer clear of historical fiction that's primarily from the point of view of a famous person. So often it feels like the author just fanboying/fangirling for 300+ pages.

A pub is just a pube without an e!

without an e, and with enough booze to make you forget all about your tawdry past relationship with that e
