We've been here over a year now! I can hardly believe it! Dreamwidth's been pretty good, I'd say, with almost no downtime to speak of and all that! Anyway... how is your spring going? Or I guess it's almost summer, isn't it? Hopefully it's been well! I've been catching up on work and new movies, all very exciting stuff, I'm sure.

Historical Italy. There's a group of people on Tumblr who write him as a sadistic bastard who murdered the smaller Italian nations when uniting the country, pretty much bathed in their blood and is a snarky bad-ass who only pretends to be happy and clueless. I'm so sick of it that I've lost interest in reading fics about Italy's history, unless I know the author/reccer.

oh, this again. the sad thing about this is if you wanted one country to headcanon as not so good with multiple languages, America's actually one of the top choices for that.

Hungary, and by extension AusHun.

She's already a fujoshi self-insert grrrrl power kind of character in the strips so it used to always be a strip by strip basis whether I liked her or not, because that goes very wrong very easily but I mostly edged out on like...until fandom dialed up the fujoshi self-insert to 11 and made her the most obnoxious holier-than-thou character that now I can't even read the strips and find her even a little enjoyable anymore. To be fair I haven't read any fic or fandom hc or whatever in probably two years because of it so maybe it's changed but yikes. Predictably ever since Himaruya's blog note during Halloween that she's crazy for cute girls I've been curious about her again, so maybe I'll like her again if I stick to yuri fandom.

As you can imagine only being willing to give Hungary a second chance because of the possibility of yuri makes it hard to appreciate AusHun (I've never liked PruHun) but good lord certain people have made it really hard to give it a go in general. Part of the problem is how it's shown in canon to be fair, but I usually try to console myself with the fact we've never actually seen them together when they were actually married. But fandom either overloads on fluff or makes them married since the 1500s because their love is eternal (or both) OR over corrects too fucking far and makes them angst buckets. Bleh.

The irony is that within America itself, it's acknowledged and kind of joked about that we do not do as much to learn multiple languages as other countries do, and most americans are monolingual

That at least two thirds of the prussia tag on Tumblr is about Hetalia. Why can't people use aph prussia for that and prussia for actual history? It would be such a nice way to organize things because sometimes I just want to do some random research without headcanons or shipping included, and it wouldn't annoy the people who are into history but not Hetalia.

I checked out some other country tags, and it seems Prussia is the only one with this problem.

above reminds me once again how tumblr's propensity for 'fixing' up characters and painting over every little flaw until they are a shining blank wall of bland, nauseatingly virtuous tumblr-sanctioned hyper-politically-correct bullshit is such a fucking pain in the ass

i only bother with tumblr for fandom, but god i wish i could hack it off like a tumor.

Yeah, but that's still no reason. And I like having clean organized tags so it would bother the heck out of me to tag something with "aph germany", "aph italy" and then suddenly "prussia". It doesn't fit the set!

I was watching a bunch of Epic Rap battles of History and :| that the (few) battles with female people are basically throwing insults about them being sluts/whores/ugly where most of the battles with men are about throwing out historical burns
