We've been here over a year now! I can hardly believe it! Dreamwidth's been pretty good, I'd say, with almost no downtime to speak of and all that! Anyway... how is your spring going? Or I guess it's almost summer, isn't it? Hopefully it's been well! I've been catching up on work and new movies, all very exciting stuff, I'm sure.

Are there any human AU premises that you dislike so much that you doubt any fic could convince you? If not specific premises, characterization elements, human names and so on that you just hate.

High school AUs - I can't relate to these stories in any way, and they make me embarrassed to remember my own teenage years

Rock/punk band AUs - boring, except if the author has a good knowledge of what it's actually like to work in the musical field and works this into the story

Mafia AUs - I can't deal with stories that portray organized crime as cool, so most of these are no thanks

Angel & demon AUs - too many of these stories have ridiculous seme/uke dynamics in which the demon is a super dominant seme and the angel a blushing, virginal uke

Mental facility AUs - especially the kind where the canon is a dream/hallucination that the main character was having

Sadly, no. But I'd really love to read that kind of fic. Heck, any kind of fic in which the author knows the ins and outs of what they're writing about. :(

tbh i can't think of any fic like that off the top of my head either. i don't read a lot of AU (in this fandom in particular, since the history canon is already such a big part of the draw-in..) but i think that might make AUs a little more appealing for me too.

any au that reduces the characters to doing nothing more than playing video games, watching disney movies, listening to the author's favorite music and going to class or something. jfc, how much more boring can you get? this is a canon that gives you easy access into writing about ANY historical period or place and the most interesting thing you can come up with is america and england holding hands at starbucks?

Issues fic. Eating disorder, depression, domestic abuse, whatever it is, it seems 99% bound to reduced the characters to nothing more than cheap hand puppets in the author's smug soapbox PSA play, and I utterly detest didactic stories.

Applies to all fanfiction. I can't stand issue fic, because it never--unless it is an actual part of the series itself--works.

Yep, I agree - in fact, it's often even more awkward in canonverse, when the characters are nations. I have little to no patience for preachiness to begin with, and I like it even less when it gets shoved into my entertainment material.
