part 353 whalers on the moon

We've been here over a year now! I can hardly believe it! Dreamwidth's been pretty good, I'd say, with almost no downtime to speak of and all that! Anyway... how is your spring going? Or I guess it's almost summer, isn't it? Hopefully it's been well! I've been catching up on work and new movies, all very exciting stuff, I'm sure.

Enjoy part 353!

I'm excited for the Sims 4 and yet not, because they're taking away features that (for me) made the Sims 3 >>>>> Sims 2! Like createa Style and the totally open world/neighborhood... not here for loading screens!!!

oh wait a question

uhh uhhh

What Sims games have you played so far?

I played Sims 1 and 2 mostly - got REALLY into Sims 2 back in highschool/college - and tried out Sims 3 but never got into it (the faces and expressions, even with the aid of custom content/custom sliders, always bugged me, though the landscapes and open world concept are awesome and I'm sad that's going away). I'm pumped up for Sims 4 because the sims themselves look great, I love them even without cc, and I'm hoping that the loading screens will be a tradeoff for lots that can hold more sims and more sims actually doing stuff instead of the rather empty lots and idly loitering sims from Sims 3 and 2. What about you, anon? And is there anything in particular that you are hoping will be in Sims 4?

Sims 3 sims have that weird... playdoh face IDEK what went on with that.

I really hope that stuff that should be in the basic game will be in it--like FREAKING PIANOS! And alien abductions/alien pregnancies.

Also RESTAURANTS, sorely miss them!!

Ah, the dreaded pudding face! It's like an extra layer of something was applied to the whole face. Besides which there's some weird, weird thing going on with the nose and mouth - mouth, especially, they all look like blowup dolls or something, and every smile looks like a grimace. Glad to see the TS4 sims have a much better balance of realism and caricature; TS3 was pretty uncanny valley and TS2 was... well, it could look pretty if you downloaded buttloads of cc and spent a good deal of time resculpting the face.

I think I saw a piano in one of the trailers, possibly? Glad to see violins are definitely in it!

Have you ever made Hetalia character sims, anon?

Yay violins! I don't want to install the EP that has pianos for my game (because it has that thing where you have to do your job in real time for certain careers, and no thank you for that) and I'm so tired of the guitar haha.

Nooo, i don't really make character Sims much. I did for the Sims 1...

What about you?

In real time? Like... in real life hours real time? D: Why?

I only made Germany (possibly a few others but I've forgotten who), mostly because I couldn't find hair to fit the others right. Besides, I played a fairly realistic style game and I never entirely decided what my favorite Hetalia characters would look like as real people - except for Germany. Sim Germany had few friends but many dogs and a nice (probably not very german, but nice) house.

THIS time around though I am sooooo making an England and a Romano and I'm going to give them very short tempers and no shortage of potentially annoying nation neighbors and I am going to make England's and Romano's cute little heads explode from rage.

What're you looking forward to most from TS4?

in Sim hours! Instead of going through a wormhole, you'd basically be "on call" to do stuff like ghost hunt or firefight or decorate houses. Which in theory is good but not in reality, especially if you have a multi-sim household! (and because of glitches, of course)

Ohohoho that would be cute! Exploding England. :D

I'm not sure yet... I think I'm excited to see how the new emotions/feelings thing changes how people interact, and seeing how the new create a house thing ends up working outside of the preview video.

OH and I'm super excited for Woo Hoo meaning you might get pregnant. It adds realism~!

Oh, I see. Hm... I guess if you only have one breadwinner in the family it'd be alright, but even then it does seem like it'd be better as an optional thing that you can turn off. I liked that TS3 had that focus on giving your sims little tasks and adventures, but that seems like it'd be more tedious than fun once you've gotten used to how to do it.

Poor old England, now I'll have one more fun tool to torment him with!

I'm glad about the woohoo pregnancy risk too! I played Sims 2 with ACR and some other mods to allow this to happen - I always thought it was more fun to let the sims run their own relationships and, perhaps, run into their own unexpected accidents, rather than controlling when to "try for baby."
