part 353 whalers on the moon

We've been here over a year now! I can hardly believe it! Dreamwidth's been pretty good, I'd say, with almost no downtime to speak of and all that! Anyway... how is your spring going? Or I guess it's almost summer, isn't it? Hopefully it's been well! I've been catching up on work and new movies, all very exciting stuff, I'm sure.

Enjoy part 353!

What pisses me off about Tumblr logic is that they are ALL about sexism and ALL about oppression until it inconveniences them. Studios in the good old days of Hollywood owned their stars. They owned them. They could make or break their careers if the stars acted out. They said jump, the stars said how high. They put Judy Garland on uppers to keep her awake while working her to the bone, for god's sake. They worked Shirley Temple hard too, and that meant doing what they said, when they said it. So even if she didn't want to do the blackface--which, at the time, it was still culturally acceptable and I doubt her parents raised a stink--the studio would have made her do it. She was a 7 year old girl.

To say nothing of the fact that she was the first white girl to hold hands with a black man in film, which was a huge fucking deal, and she talked about racism and blackface in her memoir and expressed regret for it.

but nope

nope

none of that matters
